As promised, I will announce the 25 lucky winners of the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 today. After removing the duplicate email address, there are a total of 1315 readers who took part in the lucky draw. I copied all the email addresses to Random.org list randomizer and randomized the list. The first 25 email address that appears will be the lucky winners.

free Kaspersky Antivirus 2010 license key

Congratulations and the winners will be receiving an email from me shortly containing the genuine Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 license key valid for 1 year. Do check your spam/junk folder as well if you do not hear from me after a day.

In an unrelated matter, I got many comments and email asking me about my honeymoon but the truth is me and my wife haven’t gone for it yet. We’re waiting for the MATTA fair (a travel fair) and see if we can get any good deals such as cheaper flight tickets and hotels.

We are planning to go Europe and the main countries that we’d like to visit are Greece, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland and Netherlands (perhaps a few more if we have time). I’ve started to do a little research and found out that everything such as local tour guide, Europe Rail, hotels and etc is quite costly. If you are a local in any of the countries I listed above, please share with me the must see places and food that we must try. If you’re toured Europe before, I am sure you know a tip or two on how to save money. Do share it with us!

      Hello,
for France, of course you must visit Paris. As you intend to visit some other countries, I think it would be too much (time and cost) trying to visit other interesting french towns (Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Lyon…) due to distance from Paris (nearest is 400 km far). At least in Paris, you don’t need a car to visit a lot.
For Paris, you should get a travel guide and focus on your centers of interest, particularly if you don’t have much time.
for a 2 day trip for example : Eiffel tower, Louvre museum, quartier latin and Notre-dame cathedral, … plus shopping (if you like, or your wife ;o) )

if you’ll come in Italy a method of saving money is to try search bed and breakfast or farm for accomodation, there are very many and very beautiful, you may want to visit beautiful cities like Venice, Florence, Rome etc. … or visiting regions like Tuscany, Liguria (5 lands) where there is a beautiful nature … and of course for the kitchen eating well .. is the best in the world! :-)

    • Nuno Rodrigues

      Hi.

I’ve toured a lot of countries in Europe and almost in all cases me and my wife rent a car and then toured around. The fact is that the public transportation connections between several cities in Europe are not very practical and also time consuming.

      Here are my top places:
In Portugal, you must not loose Sintra, near the capital Lisbon and its palaces. And since you are there, why not go to Lisbon and among other things (like a Fado show), see the “Museu do Azulejo”, the only one in the world (azulejo means tiles… I think). You can then go north and take a boat tour in Douro River, World heritage.

      Next Spain
Not to forget: Alhambra palace in Granada, a magical place (believe me, Ive seen many great things but nothing compares to this) and also the Mosque at Cordoba. If in Sevilha do not forget to see a Flamenco show and also the local museum wich houses to me the best painting made by Murillo, a spanish painter.
Madrid, the capital is also a must and of course Barcelona with its great night life.
In France you have Paris, my favorite citie of all. I’ve went there with my wife on several ocasions (total – 30 days): there are a lot to see and a lot more to do; the public transportation system is just great. Not to miss: the Louvre (and the Orangerie) next to it. While in France I also liked the Loire valley with it’s castles and the scenery of the region of Provence. And Versailles of course.
In ItalY you will encounter a country that is a museum on its own… a LOT of renaissance art is everywhere: not to miss Florence and the works of Michel Angelo, Milan and Rome. In Rome you can choose to see 15th century art, the remains of the roman empire or just to walk around. But please try to see some of Bernini’s works… (Rome as about 1000 churches, of wich only! 500 are open to public).

The first thing you must choose is: what is the purpose of the trip – museums, scenery and walking, culture…? Europe has offers to all of this. And from what I’ve talked to some American friends (I’m european) you will be very impressed by our history: the fact is that you can see Europe from 4000 years ago (and more) while in the America, “history” began about 400 years ago – I believe that there aren’t so many places older than this in the US…

Enjoy your trip and if you need any advice don’t hesitate ask.

    • Salvator

      Hi Ray,

For france, i’m agree with phlops . If you come you have to visit Paris 1/2 day but if you want to see the true france, come into the south. the city are less touristic than paris; you will save some money too.

    • Dan

I guess I got lucky this time. Thanks so much Raymond, I already receive so much knowledge from your blog itself, the KAV is just icing on the cake. Thanks again!

Hi Ray! I’m from Germany too and the 2 MUST SEES are München( Munich), a very beautiful city with the ” Hofbräuhaus” – a worldfamous brewery and a lot more buildings for a sightseeing-tour, and as Steffen Brumm says, Berlin.
For the Netherlands, you have to go straight to Amsterdam, both exciting and beautiful, the countryside isn’t comparable!
Hope that helps a bit, because you helped me A LOT! :D

    • Fernando Jorge

      Hi Ray!!

I agree with Nuno Rodrigues (comment #14).
Portugal is just a great country to visit… from North to South you’ll find great scenery, great people, excellent food and… (with a little search) great prices.

Take a look at some sites about Portugal, take a look at what kind of place you like (Portugal has all kinds of places: beaches, mountains, islands………..) and feel free to ask me some questions (or Nuno – from his name seems like he’s Portuguese too). :)

Good luck on your decision! :)

Hi Mr & Mrs Raymond, I have traveled a LOT and I try to avoid an “itinerary” and “schedules”, so just wander where you want, Europe is all worth seeing. If you want to try the Eurail pass, buy TWO segments, one starting when you arrive for say, a week, then another for the last week of your trip that will get you back to the airport for your return flight. You don’t mention that you have only a certain amount of days, so… to stretch the money and the time, you need to “go native”. For eating places, find one with a line of people waiting to get in… that is the place with the best food for the best price. Shop for sandwitch stuff and eat in the beautiful parks that abound in Europe. With your Eurail pass, hop on a train going a long way at 9 or 10PM, then for about 5 euros, you can have your compartment made up into a bed, with sheets and pillows and spend the night. When you get up in the morning, who knows where you will be, just hop off the train and tour the city you happen to be in… Europe is one great museum no matter where you are… AND you might discover a memorable place not on the tourist route. For places to stay when you are not sleeping on the train, you will be “shocked” at hotel prices. Ask around for maybe even a place that will rent you space in a private home to sleep and remember, the most important thing to learn is How To Be A Good Guest. I spent a year traveling in Africa and never once stayed in a hotel, just asking kids in the street if their mom or granny or auntie would rent me a place to sleep and feed me… AMAZING adventures came out of that as well as meeting folks that I still visit and write to! …40 years later. Maybe mention in your blog that you would be delighted if some of your subscribers invite you to an overnite in their home or at least at reduced rates… you have a lot of yet-to-meet friends out there. Take your Amex card and don’t get travelers checks as MOST places charge at least 4 euros to change each of them, even if it is a $20! You can get cash for a couple of days at the afiliated ATM or visit Amex affiliates and get cash with very little charges… maybe 1 or 2%. Remember you will be strangers in a strange land. Get tiny English-xxxx, xxxx-English dictionaries to carry to avoid misunderstandings, travel light… a shoulder bag or backpack should work for a month or so and rinse out your underwear and dry it overnight. Take precautions with your valuables. A tiny unlocked quad-band GSM cell phone is handy for emergencies and you can buy pre-paid SIM cards at tabaco shops that work all over. Get a “hide-away” valuables (passport, ticket, cash) pouch but NOT the ones that go around your neck as the thieves can spot the string, get the type that goes over your shoulder under your clothes and hangs down under your arm… almost invisible! Hope this helps and have a great time… don’t forget your digital camera and memory cards.

      Hi Ray:
Congrats from New York – U.S.A.

What; no fans willing to put you up for a night or two for some good computer advise? LOL

My parents took my sister and me to Europe in 1970.
My dad was using Fromers book to find cheap places for all kinds of stuff.
The one thing that really impressed me as to saving a buck or TWENTY was just by eating where the locals go.
Ask around, I’m sure someone will be willing to give you thier version of a good place to dine.

      Congrats again,
      Don

      Hi Ray,
I never became the luckiest amongst the draw, Can have this time ?

    • Orpheus

      Congratz on your marriage..

      @Milfeulle
Since I live in Greece, I can definitely say that you need to open up a map since the places you mention aren’t located in our country but in Israel. (that note isn’t even located in the continent of Europe)..
And that whole bargain thing sounds like someone having visited the markets in Lybia and Marrocco.

      Raymond..
Personally I’d avoid Athens.. even though the new museum and Akropolis are a “must”, the city is hell.. must see are:
Mycenae and near by Epidaurus (that theater is one of a kind) Meteora with its “rock towers” literally tearing the sky in half, Pelion and the traditional tsipouro shops in Volos, Delphi, the earth’s navel so we like to call it..
Should you have time to visit an island, then that would definitely have to be Santorini…

    • pelon

The ultimate vacation/honeymoon is a cruise.

1-Less costly than other modes of travel. Last year we were on a 14 day cruise from Italy, to ports in Greece, Turkey,Cyprus and Egypt that cost US$110 per day for 2 on Royal Carribbean. We spent another 2 weeks driving on our own in Italy which cost US$200 per day.

2-Cruise, you get to stop at different ports without the hassle of packing and unpacking, checking in and out of hotels, finding good restaurants, etc. etc.

3-If you have enough time you can book a second cruise with different ports, to maximize your cost of air fare (if you are coming from North America). Our ship had a different itinerary prior to our sailing.

4-If you do cruise use Cruisecritic.com before leaving. We had advice from people who had visited the same ports, of which ones where tours were not necessary and private tour companies which were better value than the ship’s tours and most importantly, gave us the option of going to the sites we wanted to see.

In Egypt on our private tour, we had all the time we wanted at each of the sites and our guide and driver kept the hordes of camel drivers and vendors from bothering us, unless we wanted what the vendors had. Others that took the ship’s tours did not have enough time at the tourist sites and were not protected from the vendors, as well as having to attend a Papyrus factory where they were forced to listen to a sales pitch and the ship gets a commission.

5-If this is your first trip to Europe it will give you a small taste for each country and make it easier to plan future trips.

6-If you do get to Greece you should see the Acopolis, we had advice on how to get there on our own from the port, which was much cheaper than taking a tour.

I have traveled for many years and been on tours by bus, train, rental cars and find cruising the easiest and best way to see the world at the lowest cost.

Most importantly, it saves stress, problems and gives the best opportunity to get to know your new partner.

      Hal

    • Zak Ember

U should surely visit TAJ MAHAL in india. It is the symbol of love. Your wife will love it (all gals do) :P

Hi, Ray i dont know if u have already been to the places before.. For it depends whether u want to see the common tourist destinations or have a quite time renting a villa for a 3-4 days and living like a local visiting vineries etc… Italy and France give you the chance to do just that.. Its cheaper to stay in hotels outside city limits than inside it saves u a lot of money like that.. I did it when i went visiting….

    • Chilco

Wow! It seems your honeymoon trip will be very interesting and funny too, Ray. Congratulations!

I can’t avoid to give some tips to Nuno Rodrigues:

      - “America” is pretty much more than the United States (look a bit southern and you will discover a whole continent!).

      - “American history” can be tracked earlier than 8,000 years ago with the Chinchorro culture mummies (north of Chile and south of Peru). Not to mention Inca, Olmeca, Tolteca, Aztec and Maya civilizations having their roots many centuries before Christ birth.

Only for the records… and, of course, something worth to be known.
