I just found an alternative to Syslog.

Directory Watcher was last updated on 11 June 1998 but it works on XP.

You should also review InstallWatch. It’s even older (may 2000) but it’s the best, really pro tool for tracking changes and keep databases.
Also it’s faster then Regshot, but people usualy don’t know that they just have to mark
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_USERS, and not all reg base keys.
