There are a lot of system diagnostics and benchmarking solution software such as SIW (Software Information for Windows), PC Wizard 2008, AIDA32, ASTRA, Belarc Advisor and many more. The ones that I just mentioned are all freeware. As for shareware, I believe that Lavalys EVEREST and SiSoftware Sandra is definitely the most popular ones. The big difference between freeware and shareware of system diagnostics software is it is always in development to support any latest computer hardwares. As for free ones, it might not be able to give you a correct reading of your hardware.

Today I discovered another one which is looks very similarly as EVEREST but it is free and the program was only updated earlier this month.


Fresh Diagnose is a complete and comprehensive tool for diagnosing and benchmarking your computer. It supplies many informations about both hardware and software system of your computer, its multimedia system, devices installed in it, and its resources. Also included, several benchmark tests to find out really, reliably, and exactly the capability indexes of your hardwares. It also supports printing and saving in multiple format : plain-text, html, rtf and doc.

Features sensors module enhancement that will support motherboard with Winbond 83627hf, 83697hf, 83627thf, 83637hf sensor chip, adds PCI busses module enhancement with a lot of PCI devices support, display monitors module that contains all of information about your monitors. The latest version 7.82 which was released 2 days ago includes processor module enhancement: recent Pentium 4, Dual-Core, Xeon, Celeron Processors.

Everything is just great about Fresh Diagnose until I tried running the benchmark which the Start button is grayed out. Later I found out that I’ll need to register by giving out an email address to receive the free license key code. The registration is a minor issue which I can always use a temporary email address in order not to receive any future emails from FreshDevices. The registration system doesn’t accept Hotmail but Gmail works fine.

Fresh Diagnose doesn’t seems to be portable because it installs a driver file freshio.sys and loads during Windows startup. I tried copying FreshDiagnose folder to another computer and I could run without problems. Although it seems fine running without installation, maybe some features will be unavailable or some readings will be inaccurate. So it’s better to install Fresh Diagnose than running it from a USB flash drive.

      Hi Raymond,

      please check the “fresh diagnose” application; when I downloaded it to my computer, it contained a Trojan:
      pothot.wx.

      The Spyware Doctor that you posted about earlier was the one that identified this Trojan,

      to Stan and all include me too: in fact sometimes (some) freewares also contain trojan/malware such viruses. but it’s rather seldom. so it’s recommended you always download them from trusted website (if you have McAfee Siteadvisor installed they usually signed by “green yes”). And the most important thing is always scan them by your updated antivirus/antispyware/antirootkit before and after you install them. thank you very much to remind all of us Stan.

      I do use the AVG AntiRoot and Pccillin from Trend Micro. The only app that identified and removed the Trojan was “Spyware Doctor with Antivirus” (THX Raymond).
      However, now I am missing some Win XP system files; the amount of time used to rid the machine of the Trojan and get it running was extensive — better to be proactive and protect your computer from invasion.
