2. Click on Sharing
3. Check on the Apple Remote Desktop to enable service. After that click on Access Privileges…
4. Make sure you check everything and finally the most important box to enable by checking is “VNC viewers may control screen with password:”
Once you’ve done all that, you do NOT need to install any third-party VNC server such as OSXvnc or cotvnc on your Apple Mac OS X.
You can now use any VNC Viewer from your Windows operating system to remote control your Apple Mac OS X.
Isn’t that cool ![]()

Great info!
I tried it and it worked within my network, but when I tried connecting via the internet it did not work. I tried opening a port on my router, but it still not work.
Does this work internally only?
This is great but how does an Apple user do the equivalent of “add new client”?
We use ultraVNC with one-click for Windows users but need something just like it for the Apple.
Thanks.

Apple\\\’s VNC implementation is very unstable and crashes frequently in Panther and Tiger so it\\\’s still better to use Vine for VNC. It might be better in Leotard, but I doubt it.
I fail to see the cause of any conflicts. Change the port in Vine. and/or turn off ARD. I have Vine running on half a dozen macs in various locations on and off-site.

Ho provato come dici ma se dal pc usando vnc viewer (ultima rel 4.4.2) mi dice che
\\\\\\\”il server is not-standard and may fail to work\\\\\\\” …. or use protocol 3.3 option.
Comunque vado avanti dando okay…inserisco la password per un attima appare \\\\\\\”penso\\\\\\\” lo schermo del mac e poi sparisce tutto….

I have the same exact problem. And if I physically go to the Mac and change a setting, I come back to the PC and RealVNC posts a message indicating that I\’ve been disconnected…yet I never saw the remote window open?!?
Anyone have any ideas as to the cause of this problem?

The builtin vnc server only accepts connection with FULL colors and is picky about encodings. So try that. It behaves exactly like this if colors or encoding doesn’t match.

Figured it out. The settings on VNC need to be set to AUTO. If you specify a lower setting for the connection, it will drop as soon as you connect.
I do not see the same you are showing on the screen
It works but every time my mac reboots I have to restart the service. It shows that it is running but I can’t connect to the mac unless I stop and start the service.
