2. Put the Hiren’s BootCD in the CD Drive, restart your computer and make sure you choose to Start BootCD.
3. Choose the number 8 option -> File Managers…
4. Choose the number 8 option again -> Mini Windows…
5. Then, Number 4 Option -> Start Windows 98 From Ram Drive
6. Within a few seconds, you should see Windows 98 loaded. Go to My Computer, copy the files on Drive (A) which is Floppy to C:\USB.
7. Download USB Disk Storage Format and follow the numbers in the picture below.

8. After formatted the Flash Memory with USB Disk Storage Format, copy all the files from C:\USB to the Flash Memory except JO.sys
9. Finally, copy the folder BootCd which is located in Hiren’s BootCD to the Flash Memory
10. This is how it should look like after following all the steps above. Once you have all that, you are now able to use your Flash Memory to boot Hiren’s BootCD.

is it possible to install Hiren’s mini98 and work with on a 486dx, HDD255MO, 8Mo ram?
is it possible to install first on another powerful pc (more ram) to that hdd255Mo, and then make it work on that 486dx, using only 8Mo RAM?
thanks in advance!
To use a USB flash it should be a bootable usb drive is not possible to boot from any usb flash
It works no doubt, but just like david said, It has to be a bootable USB flash drive, if yours still dosent work. Try entering setup immediately you boot your computer, under advance setup – check to see that among the listed boot devices; USB Flash Exterbal drive should come 1st or before any other boot devices availavle. That’s it.. Ciao. Ralphygeezle
Sorry, but I have already tried 4 usb sticks (256 MB, 1 GB, & 2 x 4 GB) and all give the same (error) blinking cursor when is trying to boot from usb. Just a blinking cursor and stops… forever. And yes, the computer is set to boot from usb (otherwise it wouldn’t stop), and I followed the above procedure step by step, and I also tried the procedure from hiren’s web page: http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd-on-usb-disk
Nothing works.
I have a problem with booting Hiren’s CD 9.3 from my computer. The same CD works in another computer .I set up in BIOS that my computer boots from CD. When the computer is restarted there is only blinking cursor and strange clicking.
Hardware: Board MSI P35 BiOS v 1.4, CPU E6750, DVD RW Pioneer 111D
Thank you in advance.
is this working in a NTFS format sys
i know that win98 don’t support the NTFS format sys that i have in all my partition?
thx
Hyas,
If you get held up on the cursor when booting from usb, please try to remove the “/numhandles=128″ from config.sys particularly if you have usb of space more than 128MB. This file can be made visible by enabling ’show hidden files’ & ’show system files’ from windows explorer, if you can’t see it.
Thanks.
for mini98
boot the mini 98
then use GHOST to ghost the 98 drive
find a old hard drive
put the .gho file of mini98 on a cd thats bootable with ghost on it
put the cd in and the old hard drive
boot the ghost botable cd,then tell it to undo the ght image to the old hard drive..reboot
wah-la
how do u make a bootable cd?
with nero inside the nero dirthere is a boot.img
copy to a temp dir
download winimage
use winimage to open the boot.img
delete everything but :
msdos.sys
drvspace.bin
command.com
io.sys
copy ghost.exe into that image then click save
open nero
goto cd,bootable
ckick boot image
goto where you saved that copy of the boot.img
select it
click next and add the mini98.gho
click burn
also if 98 isin’t your flaver search for “microxp torrent”
then download it,install it to a small hard drive
it only takes 200megs hd space fully installed
go in the experince dir on the desktop
goto services,click enableall.reg
reboot
as for REAL dos games/emulators to run with XP
DO NOT USE Dosbox or those freaking emulators
get 4nt dos,its as real to dos as u can get
MANY MANY Games/apps for dos run with it with full sound
that wouldin’t in any dos emulator
This works with earlier versions of Hiren boot cd 8.4. After that none of the versions worked for me. There appears to be a problem loading cd drivers.
I have restored my windows xp from a norton ghost image.my master book record was set on a linux partion and after the restore process my pc didn’t boot properly, how can I restore my linux partion and the files within?
thanx
Hello everybody
Ijust wanna say thanks to all. This solution solve my problem and i make my usb flash memory bootable on first ball, Hiren\’s work allmost like from CD.
I am very satisfied.
I used isobluster to extract bootimage from hiren bootcd iso. Then i extract all files from that bootimage to my flash drive. However you need to make sure your flash drive is bootable. Never try on hiren boot usb disk but able to create bootable flash drive (5 different brand) using HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool.
Friends, its work..
You need just to re-install the master boot record using linux live cd
People with SATA main drives (e.g. Gateway MX-6961), please note that (Mini)Win98 probably (and DOS for sure) won\’t detect your drive, meaning step 6 is going to be tricky. A possible workaround is to get a second USB stick to use as the temporary storage for the copy from the \’Floppy\’ device described in step 6.
The USB format tool wouldn\’t execute correctly for me in MiniWin98, so I did most of the steps in XP; it shouldn\’t make much difference (though there could be problems like long-/short-filename issues, etc).
In any case, I also got the top-left-text-mode-blinking-caret-and-nothing-else result, after correctly setting up my boot sequence (USB stick, removable storage, optical, HD).
Since I\’m keen on booting into any OS that can accomplish system rescues, Linux is a worthy alternative, and I found a page that explains bootable-USB issues quite well, including the details like drive geometry compatibility: http://www.finnix.org/Bootable_USB_flash_drives
Hi , this is very easy way to make Hiren’s BootCD from USB Flash drive.
http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd-on-usb-disk
good luck
Tried the methods supported @
http://www.hirensbootcd.net/usb-booting.html
http://pplware.sapo.pt/2009/03/31/hirens-bootcd-atraves-da-pen-usb/
but neither were doing the trick for me, the hp 2133 mini i had to do it on was refusing to start the boot loader, it did work on another stations tho.
the method here worked with hiren 10.1 i just copied the whole cd contents to the flash drive, saved my skin, thx.
