I went to Control Panel and ran Add or Remove Programs. Found Symantec Antivirus Client and I clicked on the Remove button. The progress bar ran for a while and a dialog box pop out asking for password to continue the uninstallation.

I asked my friend and he didn’t know anything about it! I couldn’t install any other type of antivirus IF i do not remove the Symantec Antivirus client first. Searched around and found the default password to uninstall Symantec Antivirus client and also a way to bypass the password.
The default password that should work for most of the Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition client uninstallation is “symantec“. Easy isn’t it? Well it isn’t if you don’t know.
This is what you should do if the default password didn’t work.
1) Go to Start -> Run and type regedit
2) Navigate to:
3) Double click on the value name “UseVPUninstallPassword” and change the value from 1 to 0
4) Close the registry and retry the uninstall.

You’re a genius. It worked really fine.
I checked my registry, the UseVPUninstallPassword value is already set to 0, but still I can’t uninstall NAV. I took the risk by deleting VPUninstallPassword value, and VOILA… it worked! Thanks for enlightening my way….

Raymond, you are a genius!
At first, I changed the numbers that were in VPUninstallPassword to 0, but of course, it didn’t work…
So I tried again and realised I looked at the value name wrongly… I changed the one specified to 0 and it’s all worked out… I just hope I didn’t wreck anything by the other value I modified.
Thanks from Brazil. It worked like a glove to me.

I cannot find that REG key anywhere!!! I\’ve done a search and it doesn\’t exist…
Is there some other way to uninstall Symantec?
thanks for this
I finally found the path for SAV Corporate 10. Look here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\ SOFTWARE\\ INTEL\\ LANDesk\\ VirusProtect6\\ CurrentVersion\\ Administrator Only\\ Security\\
The rest of this post applies. Thanks
Thanks guys/gals!
Thank you for this post!!!!!

Thanks Dude!
I have Avast Pro and now I can finally use it without disabling things!
This worked. Go ahead and try this solution. The uninstall afte the registry change does not even ask for a password again. How does someone find these details out – especially the registray keys and values that needs to be changed, is there a tool to help with this ?
VERY GOOOOOD
This didn\\\’t work for me. Other PC\\\’s in our office accepted the password \\\”symantec\\\” but one doesn\\\’t. Followed the instructions and I get a message about a \\\”Fatal Error\\\”. Tried to delete the entry like someone else above, although it worked for them, it didn\\\’t for me.
So what to do?
Great site anyway, I\\\’ll be back!

Hi,
does not work on my PC. The key is not in the registry, but also when trying to add it manually, I get an error message telling:
Cannot create key: Error while opening the key AdministratorOnly, althought I am an Administrator and also a local administrator.
Why is Symantec not fixing this annoying problem!
Regards, Harry
old post, but helped me out on some old servers.
Thanks a lot:)
You hooked me up! Thanks!
Thanks… that was a one click solution for me!
Here is the solution
There’s an easy way, when password prompt opens, run task manager and END
task called MSIEXEC that runs under your user account (not system). The password
go away and uninstall continues

Superman!!! Thanks
Worked great. Thanks!
Thanks for the info…solution worked for me
Spot on instructions. Windows Explorer only shows a path to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect
Perhaps the full path should maybe be included in the description so people wouldnt have to search for it, maybe getting the wrong path and changing something in their registry they shouldnt?
Just a suggestion, thanks for the help, in all regards.
thanks man it works ..
Yo, thanks so very much… I greatly appreciate it, but I have a question if it could possibly be answered… What does the changing of the “UseVPUninstallPassword” the number from 1 to 0 later effect?
Yes – worked at second uninstall attempt. Key was:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\AdministratorOnly\Security\UseVPUninstallPassword
I also renamed the value VPUninstallPassword.
The second Uninstall from the control succeeded.
Thanks
