If you’ve encountered this problem, read on for a fix on how to stop FlashGet from overwriting your default .torrent association.
First of all, you’ll need to DOWNLOAD and install the latest version of FlashGet v1.8 Beta “2″.
Next, go to FlashGet’s Options from your Tools menu.

When the options box is out, go to “Other” tab, scroll right to the bottom and you’ll see a checkbox that says “Associate FlashGet with .torrent file“. Uncheck that box.
That’s all. Run your favorite Torrent client such as uTorrent, BitComet, Azureus, Mainline, and etc to make it the default torrent handler.
FlashGet 1.8 beta 1 has problems with that checkbox. Even if you’ve uncheck that box, it still wouldn’t work. After much complain from users of 1.8 beta 1, the author has fixed this bug and released beta 2.
Update 8-DEC-2006: FlashGet 1.8 Beta 3 is out! It claims to fix the bug “Check the Downloaded BT File Completely”. Download link is updated to FlashGet 1.8 Beta 3.
