This is a very scary trap because I know a lot of people who knows how to download from bittorrent but don’t know anything about peer, leecher, tracker and etc… In short, they don’t know how bittorrent works but they know that by waiting for days, the download will complete and they get what they want.
Here’s how you can know if the Torrent or Tracker is fake.
Fenopy has created a Fake Finder page that lists the most popular fake torrents and the latest fake trackers. It also allows you to search for fake torrents by keyword or infohash.
I took a look at the whole list of all fake torrents and the filename looks pretty real. There’s no way you can know whether the torrent is fake or not unless it’s listed on Fenopy Fake Finder list.
If you’re using uTorrent, here’s how to check which tracker are you connecting to.
![]()
After loading torrent file to your bittorrent client, look at the “General” tab and you’ll see “Tracker URL“. If the tracker URL is listed on Fenopy Fake Finder, please, don’t even start downloading it!

Thanks for the post
I tried a torrent direct from the Fenopy site, and it got listed? lol
yeah…!! it workz whatever u say my love.
Wow! Great Tips!
Thanks!
very usefull!
thanks Sir!
Ya I got caught for downloading Photshop CS2. Fuckin RIAA can go to hell! Had to lay low for a few months.
@Scott:
Just use PeerGuardian to prevent anti-piracy orgs. from hacking into your computer.
Info: http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/
hai thanks
sooo much for u kind information
I think that you just use PeerGuardian cause when u only start the torrent, not looking at the trackers you get your IP recorded
Try finding someone with accounts with private torrent sites like torrentleech.org. Only members can post torrents there and not as much likely to get these fake torrents. And the only way to become a member is to be invited. Plus they have wicked speeds, and the community is great with people uploading as much as they download.
Thanks for the info on identifying fakes….
I got caught by the BSA for downloading photoshop CS2 great tip wish I knew about it earyer…
Site is down
I also use “PeerGuardian 2″ and use Bitjunkie.com to search for files, they allow users to post comments as to the authenticity of the file.
My advise: Don’t use public torrent sites it’s better…
Use Private ones… filesharingtalk can help you gettin’ an invite….
only use public sites if you want to find sumfin really rare,
but not CS2 loooool get direct links for that…
Dynamic IP FTW!
Save the torrent first to your computer, Do not open it using browser or open options!!
If the tracker is not listed on the website, then open it with —Notepad— by right clicking on the file, open with, then choose program, Notepad. The tracker is usually always on top followed by digital jargon.
Haha blame it on a minor out. If you have multiple computers with internet and one router, how can they pin it on you if your router uses NAT aka 192.168.0.1 or something similar addresses.
Lastly do not be lazy if pinned. Know that there is a small pool of ip addresses that are designated specifically to your isp regardless of whether your Ip changes regularly!
Get everything off your computer! Then do a government style free space wipe. Spybot Search & Destory is free, and has a free space wiper. 10 – 13 passes. Worries gone, provided any copies are well hidden, Reset your router, and wipe all records.
Hope that helps ppl.
I screwed my Hard Drive to the floor under the house, and its also sitting on 4 kilos of fire worx with a short fuse…
Will that do it?
doesn’t setting up fake torrents count as entrapment which is illegal in the UK and would not have a leg to stand on in court
Thanks a lot , will be really helpful !!
it\\\’s only entrapment if something is setup to make you commit a crime you wouldn\\\’t knowingly commit. my law class used this dumb little example. if there was a bag of drugs randomly on the ground and you picked it up and got busted……that would be entrapment.
so looking for files you know are illegal and getting caught in a \\\”sting\\\” is not entrapment once you choose to download it because you know it\\\’s illegal.
hope that helps
good tip!! i use pg2 too

byebye
9 torrents sur 10 telechargés sur fenopy, etait des fakes
donc balayer devant sa porte !!!!!!!
it’s very usefull for me thanx
The RIAA would have nothing to do with Photoshop, they sole purpose it to watch for Illegal downloading of copyright protected music/audio files.
these lists are kind of a piece of crap i must say. by just browsing over them very quickly i found about at least 30 trackers and torrents listed that are definitively non fake.
i don\’t know where these people get their info\’s from but they are at most BS so far as i can see.
anyway. there is no \”golden rule\” how to keep safe. though you can minimize the risks by just using your (good old) common sense.
first of all: don\’t jump at everything you see. 0-days, screeners, cams, telesync\’s or rips of fresh DVD and CD releases are always at the highest risk being very closely observed by the companies.
as here already mentioned: use PeerGardian and or other p2p-ware.
use invite sites (yes it is harder to get in – but there is a reason to that).
use a service/software like
[ http://www.findnot.com/ ] ,
which wipes your traces over proxy-connections (i only recommend these because searching, finding an keeping a fast poxy chain can be hell of a real drag if you don\’t exactly know what your doing. . . but. . .
. . . you can also try your luck with this cost-free proxy-list
[ http://www.anonymousinet.com/ ] for example.
there are many more on the net but for myself i know this is one of the better ones.
when public sites then use sites such as
[ http://thepiratebay.org/ ] ,
[ http://www.torrentbox.com ] or
[ http://www.mininova.org/ ] (and some others)
AND NO, they can\’t do miracles but they do care for the safety of their users as far as possible. so if you think there is something fishy going on just slip them a note. don\’t believe you\’ll become an answer – but they will check the issue.
if your a real scared one than maybe you should try out something like this:
http://www.filetopia.org/home.htm
http://mute-net.sourceforge.net/
http://freenetproject.org/news.html?lang=en
you won\’t find so much material there but – back in the day – torrent started out small too.
thing is:
there is no such thing as real safety by file-sharing – and a 100% never ever! so just keep your eyes and mind open and be careful.
and as always in life: NO RISK – NO FUN!
you know your doing something wrong – so enjoy the buzz. but don\’t start whining around like little babies when you get caught with your fingers in the cookie-jar! that\’s part of the game, you suckers!
have fun
check vertor .com
thanks..very helpful..
