Simply download FileASSASSIN from the link below. There are installer version and also portable version. Start FileASSASSIN and select a file by dragging it onto the text area or select it using the (…) button. Next, select a removal method from the list. Finally, click delete and the removal process will commence.

I like the options that the interface has. You can either use the FileASSASSIN’s method to unlock and delete the running file, or you can choose to automatically delete the file when Windows reboot or the normal delete function that is the same as pressing the delete key in Windows. Below are the explanations of FileASSASIN’s method of file processing.
1. Unlock locked file handlers: This option will scan through all handles system wide and remove any pointers to the file.
2. Unload modules: This function will free the libraries from remote processes.
3. Terminate the file’s process: This function will simply terminate the process.
4. Delete file: This option will decide if the file shall be deleted or not.
FileASSASSIN v1.05 is free and compatible with Windows 2000, NT, XP, Vista.

Nice, some spys or virus are impossible to delete even when tried to stop the process. If I can remove the source of the problems with this tool, it is a hell of a tool…
thanks ray
i was facing this problem too and i didn’t know how can i solve it
thx Raymond – again usefull stuff !
cool utility. I was searching the error message on google and i stumbled upon yours. an extremely powerful tool. thanks once again for the introduction..
If this little «progicial» can solve that problem, it will be very good for my nerves. A similar problem: changing the name of a file or repertory. To often, we must reboot Explorer when not the entire computer. If you find something, please!
I just checked your first related articles. It is exactly what I need! Gee! you’re good!
can’t believe I didn’t knew this one… Your Google is mighty :)

I just LOVE your site, all the tips and trix! YOU ARE AWESOME!
Great tool, but still did not fix my problem…. I have used this and Unlocker. Its a file that was randomly made when a disk went bad. It\’s impossible to delete and its been very frustrating. File assassin says that it doesn\’t exist. 0irri\’s LicN Re Qnformtio醘.xKૹ Thats the file name. Not read only, nothing. Could it just be a bad sector on the disk that is not repairable?
Have you tried first renaming and moving and rebooting before deleting? sometimes it takes a bit of patience, but it usually gets the job done
My situation is that my roommate downloaded a ridiculously large torrent file full of sub directory after sub directory. I was able to use unlocker to delete one of the three primary directories in the tree. if I so much as let the mouse pass over the icon for any of these or the directory above it it will close explorer within 20 seconds. explorer will then restart without an error message. if I click delete before explorer crashes a prompt comes up asking me if I want to permanently delete them because the file names are too long then it brings up a file transfer graphic that doesn’t move followed by explorer crashing and restarting. very odd.. so I can’t seem to get rid of 11 gigs of garbage that I can’t even access let alone delete.
If I could find a boot disk that allowed me to delete individual files from an ntfs partition I would not have a problem I’m sure. I have tried search after search on the internet and no one seems to have had this exact problem. also any other program that tries to access that directory also crashes
when i tried file assasin it crashes every time
