Here’s a list of startups that are currently deemed unnecessary. Take a look at it so in future you’ll know what it is when you see it. There’s also a tool that will display a list of unnecessary startup entries and you can easily disable and remove them from there.
StartUpLite is a lightweight program that can disable or remove all known unnecessary startup entries from your computer and thus quicken the startup procedure of your system.
ADGJdet
Added with SoundBlaster Live! or Audigy soundcards for headphone autodetection.
Adobe Gamma Loader
Adjusts monitor colours across all programs, including Photoshop. It is needed by some graphics professionals who want their monitor calibrated. Most home users will not need it.
Adobe Reader Speed Launch
Speeds up the time it takes to load the Adobe Reader application. Not required to run Adobe correctly.
Activation
Part of Microsoft Money. Not necessary to run Micrsoft Money correctly.
AIM
AOL Instant Messenger. If connected to the internet, automatically starts and connects. Not necessary for AIM to run correctly.
atiptaxx
Control panel for the ATI series of video cards allowing access to such features as display resolution, color depth, etc.
Cmaudio
System tray control panel for C-Media based soundcards – often included on popular motherboards with in-built audio. Removing this entry will free up some system resources.
CTDVDDet
Auto-detect and play a DVD when using a Creative Soundblaster Audigy2 soundcard.
CTFMON.EXE
CTFMon is involved with the language/alternative input services in Office XP.
CTHELPER
CTHELPER is a background task that is a plug-in manager for Creative drivers.
CTsysVol
Creative sound card volume controls.
diagent
This provides System Tray access for Creative Diagnostics for the Creative SoundBlaster series soundcards, which is available via Start -> Programs.
Digital River eBot
Download from a software manufacturer, you will be sent to this online company’s site for the download after the purchase is complete.
DiskeeperSystray
DisKeeper defragmentation software, can be started manually.
dumprep 0 -k
In connection with memory dumps. Not necessary to run system properly. Removing this entry will free up some system resources.

Microsoft Windows Program Group Converter – used by installers (ONLY in the RunOnce keys) – provides the translation of groups and group items to folders and links.
hkcmd
Installed by the Intel 810 and 815 chipset graphic drivers. Not necessary to run system.
HotKeysCmds
Installed by the Intel 810 and 815 chipset graphic drivers. If you want the Ctrl Alt F12 or similar keypresses to access Intel’s customised graphics properties, you need it, otherwise not.
HP Component Manager
Checks the internet for updated drivers/utilities for your HP product. Removing this entry will free up some system resources.
HP Software Update
HP software updater. Removing this entry will free up some system resources.
ibmmessages (ibmmessages.exe)
Allows IBM to push messages onto users’ computers. Quote: “The Access IBM Message Center can display messages to inform you about software and solutions available from IBM as well as messages from IBM eSupport”
ICO (ICO.EXE)
Found on a Sony Vaio laptop and seems to be related to Mouse Suite 98 Daemon according to the properties. Appears to cause a behaviour where the desktop suddenly flips back up when playing DirectX associated games.
IgfxTray
Quick access to the control panel via a System Tray icon for graphics based upon the Intel chipsets (ie, i810). These chipsets are often included on motherboards. Available via Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
InCD
Ahead InCD packet writing software – similar to DirectCD. For Nero 5.0 or 5.5 (InCD3).
IntelliPoint
Microsoft Intellipoint software for their Intellimouse series of mice.
ISUSPM Startup
InstallShield Update Service Scheduler. Automatically searches for and performs any updates to the software so you’re always working with the most current version.
ISUSScheduler

iTunes Helper
Installed with Apple’s iTunes for Windows. Not necessary to run iTunes correctly.

MS WebTV for Windows. Used to display TV on your PC via a compatible video card with in-built tuner (such as ATI All-In-Wonder).
Microsoft Office
Application which launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs.
Microsoft Office Fast Cache
Part of MS Office 95 (v7.0). Not necessary to run MS Office 95 correctly.
Microsoft Office Startup
Application which launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs.
Microsoft Utility Startup
Application which launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs.
Microsoft Works Update Detection
Checks for updates to Microsoft Works. Unnecessary. Removing this entry will free up some system resources.
MimBoot
Starts Musicmatch Jukebox at bootup – can be started manually.
MMTray
MusicMatch Jukebox icon in the task tray – digital music player/CD burner and ripper/music organizer/playlist creator.
MoneyAgent
Part of Microsoft Money. Not required for Money to run correctly.
Motive SmartBridge
System tray icon for the Virtual Assistant from AT&T Broadband , used to communicate internet problems via the network rather than telephone. Not required.
MSMSGS
Microsoft Windows Messenger. Not necessary, can be started manually when needed. Removing this entry will free up some system resources.
MsnMsgr
MSN Messenger (now superseeded by Windows Live Messenger) utility. If you don’t use MSN Messenger, this can be disabled to free up some system resources.
NBJ
Ahead Nero BackItUp backup program. Only required for if you have scheduled back-ups.
NeroCheck
Associated with Nero Burning Rom CD writing software. Checks for driver issues.
NeroFilterCheck
Associated with Nero Burning Rom CD writing software. Checks for driver issues.
NvCplDaemon
System Tray icon used to change display settings, change the clock rate and memory speed for nVidia based graphics cards.
NVIEW
This is a DLL to enable multiple display monitors on a single computer. It can be a cause of numerous problems on some computers.
NVMCTRAY
System Tray icon used to manage settings for nVidia based graphics cards.
nwiz
Associated with the newer versions of nVidia graphics cards drivers. Allows you to immensely improve desktop layouts by setting preferences and optimizations. However, this isn’t necessary for the operation of your system.
Office Startup
Application which launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs.

Remote Control background application for CyberLink’s PowerDVD version 5 and above.
Persistence
Associated with the Common User Interface module for Intel graphics cards. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.
PowerBar
Part of CyberLink’s PowerDVD software. Not necessary to run PowerDVD correctly.
qttask
System Tray access to Apple’s QuickTime viewer from version 5 upwards. Not needed to run Quicktime correctly.
Quicken Scheduled Updates
Quicken background downloading module. Can be started manually.
Quicknote
JC&MB Quicknote Virtual Scrapbook. Not necessary to run Scrapbook correctly.
QuickTime Task
Provides a system tray icon that you can use for quick access to the QuickTime application and additional settings. If you use the system tray icon to launch QuickTime you should leave this process running.
RealDownload
Download manager for Real Player. Not necessary. Available via Start -> Programs.
realplay
System Tray icon for Real Player. Not necessary for Real Player to run correctly.
Realsched
Application Scheduler installed along with RealOne Player. Not necessary to run RealOne Player correctly.

StartUpLite doesn’t list ALL startup entries. It only list any of the above processes installed on your computer. Using StartUpLite is easy. Simply download StartUpLite from the link below and save it to a convenient location. Double click on StartUpLite.exe. Select all options you would like executed and select continue.

Sometimes we can see the program name in startup list .. but don’t understand what’s the use of that program. To safely remove a program it is important to know the program description.. That is where the start up program lists are extremly useful.

For those that must run this many apps but still want a task bar I’d suggest using a program called “PS Tray Factory”. Its got some other neat features like making the taskbar transparent and hot keys for min/max any app.

no need of messy downloads to manage sartup programs. Just open ” RUN ” and type “msconfig” ( if you use xp ). Then click on sartup programs and manage all them !!1
atom, you clearly don’t understand the purpose of this program. You can use msconfig to disable startup programs BUT you don’t know which ones are unnecessary.
StartUpLite has the ability to tell you which is unnecessary. Now you know the difference?
