I wasn’t able to fix this problem the first time I downloaded Ad-Aware 2007 until I have more time to do some research on it. Now I found the solution and here’s how you can fix this error message and install Ad-Aware 2007 without problems.
It seems that there’s a bug in Ad-Aware 2007 installer. Apparently the installer was not tweaked correctly and this workaround which I am going to show you resolves the problem.
There are two options to resolve this issue – I used the latter ‘passive’ option. One method involves registering the Visual Basic Script runtime which will permit the installer to work correctly. The other method involves installing in “passive” mode which will bypass the portions of the installer that are causing the error.
First method:
To register the Visual Basic Script runtime:
Go to Start -> Run, type the following command and hit Enter.

I tried unregistering the vbscript.dll by adding a /u at the command and ran the installer again. The Fatal Error message appears. This proves that by registering the vbscript.dll fixes the installation problem.
Second method:
To install in “passive mode”:
Either run the command “aaw2007.exe /passive” on Start -> Run, or from command prompt. Make sure you change the directory to where the aaw2007.exe resides.
Passive installation mode will bypass all questions during installation, hence, bypassing the part of the installer that are causing the error. Please take note that if you’re using the passive mode to install Ad-Aware 2007, make sure you’ve closed all your running programs and also save any documents that you’re typing. This is because IF the installer requires a restart, it will automatically restart without asking for your permission.
Enjoy using the new Ad-Aware 2007
P/S: This solution works not only on Ad-Aware 2007. Any software that uses this installation and has this same error can be fixed by the 2 solutions above.

Hi Raymond!
I tried both methods under windows XP and no luck… it just does not want to install. Any thoughts what I can do?
(1) in passive mode it just stops half way during the installation and
(2) in the ‘regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\vbscript.dll’ method the error message stays the same: Installation ended prematurely because of an error)
Thanks,
A.
Thanks for your help with solving the vb script problem encountered during installation of Ad-Aware. That was a real headache until I read your solution.
Same as Andreas, no luck..
Tried both methods but failed.
Problem start when I try to install ad aware 2007. Got the error 1920, then a box appeared and choose Retry but failed.
Hey there…I had the same problem for 2-3 days now….and i can tell you ive tried everything… i was searching in every forum for a solution to this and whatever i did it seemed it would go on forever…Well i was ready to give up but then i gave an other try:
When you run the installation exe, it chooses by default the C:\Program Files directory…well i changed the destination folder….i have two partitions in my hard disc (C: and D:)…so i created a new folder in my D: drive to install ad-aware 2007 there.i dont know why, but it worked !!! the installation was unsuccessful and everything seems to go right so far…I hope it was for you too
Lord Ray, you saves my 3 hours lost looking for solution!! God Bless Raymond!! Long Life to Ray!!
Same as Andreas too.

Then i deleted the Lavasoft folder in Programs Files, and the installation completed successfuly,

I did what vangelis suggested. I delete the Lavasoft folder from Programs Files. Then I started the installation again, but this time I change the folder where to install the program. Exelente! it did work!

Hi Raymond – since I bought a Vista computer, I have never been able to install any version of Adaware. I have just tried the recommendation to download to another ‘me-created’ folder, but I get the usual message “Access violation”. Any ideas? Thanks, Hugh Sawyer, Basingstoke, ENGLAND
