But if you prefer to have your username and password saved in your Firefox browser for websites such as Yahoo Mail and Hotmail, then follow the few simple steps below to ignore autocomplete that has been turned off.
1. Go to the website that you want to save user login (For example, Yahoo Mail)
2. Copy the javascript below and paste it to Firefox address bar. You can either press Alt+D or Ctrl+L simultaneously to directly go to Firefox address bar.

You will then see a message box similar to the below appear.

3. Type your username and password and sign in.
4. Firefox will ignore the autocomplete=”off” code and prompt you to “remember your password“.
Note: This javascript hack will only work on Firefox browser.

Thank you very, very, very much. I hate this block…
Wow, Thanks !!! I love it, I got a question though about firefox too, everytime i add a proxy in firefox, i restart it, the proxy is gone and the option is retured back to the first option which is detect connection to the internet, any idea?
Tools > options > advanced > network > settings
Is it only me that is fed up of reading articals related to firefox and password storage?
The ideas just came up and I found solution for it. So I write it on my blog for my future references. If you’re “fed up”, then just skip reading what I wrote today and wait for tomorrow’s article.
Vot the F**k? If you’re fed up, read something else. This was actually a good article (not artical).
dont be so aggressive, gosh, im only saying what i feel, its comman sence not to read it if im not intrested, so i dont need telling. I think these posts are exelent but recently they have nearly all been about firefox and passwords

Thank you. This was news to me. I tried it and it works great! Another Revelation! I love this site!
Hello,
I tried to use this tip.
Firefox stored the email address and password correctly -I checked out in the password manager- however, it doesn´t enter inside the mailbox (HOTMAIL).
All the data is introduced automatically but it doesn´t go through.
Any suggestions.
Thanks!
Thanks anyway but….
This script DOES NOT work with Hotmail Live website.
Just letting you know…
Just tested Hotmail Live with Firefox and it worked fine.
I have the same problem as Mike D.
When I carry out the procedure, a drop down list of previously used logins immediately becomes available in the username form. However, once I log in and log out and go back to the login page, the drop down list is again unavailable and I must rerun the script…
I have tried this on new Yahoo! and classic Yahoo! webmail with Firefox 2.0.0.12 and I do not get the \\\”Remove autocomplete = off\\\” box or the \\\”Do you want Firefox to remember this password?\\\” box popping up.
What am I doing wrong? I\\\’ve tried repeatedly.
I was really pleased I came across your fix for this as it drives me mad having to enter my username and password every time
This works wonderfully with SeaMonkey on Linux
(Slackware 12.1) Many thanks for helping me
fix this major annoyance! Great work.
This script works great in Linux!!!!
doesnt work for me in firefox3. or mayb ite due 2 yahoo!!!
lik Michael—i hav to repeat the script each time i try to log in, which then shows my dropdown list!!!
any solution?
MOZILLAZLINE page:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/User_name_and_password_not_remembered
follow the instructions on this page, works perfectly for me…
i think its the same script but tht the script must be bookmarked
Thanks! Tip works perfect
I FOUND A WAY TO MAKE IT WORK IN FIREFOX 3!!!
Firefox 3 does not support the extension “always save password,” so some web sites (such as Outlook web-based e-mail sites or banking web sites) are not usable with the built-in Firefox 3 password manager feature. It is dangerous to turn this on, and one should only turn this on if one uses a Master Password in Firefox.
if one uses a Master Password and one wishes to turn this off, one needs to go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\components, and comment out these lines in nsLoginManager.js:
// if (element && element.hasAttribute(”autocomplete”) &&
// element.getAttribute(”autocomplete”).toLowerCase() == “off”)
// return true;
kudos to Tonycosus
for an easy solution
to a pesky problem
THE JAVASCRIPT FOR “FIREFOX” TO PROMPT AND REMEMBER ALL PASSWORDS IS NOT CLEAR IN THE ARTICLE POSTED BY RAYMOND.
PLEASE VERIFY. THEY APPEAR IN 2 VERSIONS, NEITHER WORKED FOR ME WHEN i COPIED EACH AND PASTED AS RECOMMENDED.
PLEASE E-MAIL ME THE REPLY DIRECTLY ALSO IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
c vraiment n’importe nawak ce blog… a croire que personne s’est écrire français…
AWESOME! I just installed Firefox due to a lot of IE issues, and this was the one thing bothering me. I tried other solutions, but they were either too complicated or didn’t work. This was EASY, AND it WORKED! Thank you.
thanks! solved my problem
(Firefox 3.0.7) I used the above Firefox workaround for failing to store and use IDs & PWs and it seemed to work. In fact it DID store my ID & PW. However, once stored, it does NOT use them.
This thing is driving me crazy!! Please help.
Robbie
p.s. “Mozillo chat line” person sent me here for help.
tested with Firefox 3.5.3, working perfectly with Windows Live Hotmail.
thank you so much!
Thanks, very useful, but it dont work for me, it saves the password, but it dont autocomplete it the next time i try to login
However, the tip on the comment 26 worked fine, now it save all the passwords
Tried that for mail.yahoo.com in Ubuntu/Firefox 3.5.3. It not only crashes Firefox but the whole desktop (logout) and then when Firefox is opened again the settings have returned to default (not remember passwords).
not everyone wants their passwords remembering.
i susspect this is a wider issue. firefox 3.5.5 opens HOTMAIL as usual. however it WILL NOT OPEN YAHOO MAIL. i have read copious notes, forums and answers on this subject and NOTHING suggested by any forum or FIREFOX HELP has worked. disabling or uninstalling add-ons / toolbars and plug-ins all to no avial.
no amount of settign changes through options has worked. i did disable firefox from REDIRECTING all my pages by blocking the site that it accesses to do so (forgot who it was, sorry) . i think this is firefox getting to big for their boots like most companies eventually do (microsoft for one). i wonder if they’ve done some commercial deals, like google did, to force all it’s users to access advertisments by enabling thrid party cookies.
i have mine set to amnually allow or block, it is cumbersome but more secure. i regularly delete cookies, history and temp files. IE has no problem acceessing Yahoo mail. i will have to contend with that naff solution for yahoo until firefox get their heads out of their arses. pity – they’ve been superior to IE up to now
