There are times we are not able to find the correct subtitle file that sync with divx movie file from subtitle websites or even using software. When this happens, there are two options. First one is to wait for a few days and hope that the correct subtitle will be uploaded. Another option is to download the subtitle that’s out of sync and synchronize the subtitles with your movie yourself. I’ll show you how easy it is to adjust the SRT or SUB subtitle file to synchronize with movie file.
If you do a search, there are lots of free programs that can help you synchronize your subtitle file. There is Time Adjuster, FurySync, SubMagic, and etc… One of my favorite is SubtitlesSynch by David Cohen. It is small, easy to use and does what is supposed to.

SubtitlesSynch is an easy-to-use program that enables the user to synchronize the time of a subtitle (.sub/.srt) file. Just enter the time difference between the video and the subtitle file and you’ll get a new subtitle file synchronized with your video. Version 1.2 can automatically open with the previous selected subtitle file and has an option to synchronize only for specific time slice (good for commercial break).
The program interface itself is pretty much self explanatory. Load the subtitle file, if the subtitle is slower than the movie character is speaking, then you need to select “Add time” and set the time offset. I believe you’d only need to use seconds and milliseconds. Click Synchronize button and it’ll automatically create a backup of your subtitle file. If the subtitle is too fast, then select “Reduce time” to slow down the subtitle.
There is another good tutorial on how to synchronize subtitles with your movie using Time Adjuster at OpenSubtitles. What method and software do you use to synchronize a out-of-sync subtitle file with movie file?

I use VLC, and the easiest way is to use ctrl+j and ctrl+h to set the subtitles delay in real time. Also, you can use ctrl+k and ctrl+l if the audio is out of sync. Very easy.
This is interesting we are right in the middle of a video project..
I think this is certainly worth a try especially for the sub titling aspect of it…
Great resource!
VLC, for watching is okay, but not for permanent sub.
Subtitle Workshop (http://www.urusoft.net/products.php?cat=sw) . It has a video window to see the result after the adjustment without leaving the program. Full featured and free.
wow
I use km player its much better at synchronizing then vlc
Subtitle Workshop v2.51 does much the same. It has lot more features to choose from. After editing the subtitle file, use AVI-Mux to integrate the subtitle, audio and video into one standalone video.
Cool !!!!!
this is very usefull software. Today i have got a differrent problem. The subtitle is dalaying slowly. ie, at starting subtitle is synchronised then the subtitle dalays with time(speed of movie is less than speed of subtitle). and at the end it has got much difference of 3 minutes. Is there any software to correct this type of problem.
Dipin: you need to change the FPS of your subtitles to the one of your movie. To know it I recommend Gspot (google it) and the to fix the subtitles the above mentioned Subtitle Workshop.
thanks for the VLC tip :)
Great….finnally I can use any subtitles i wish…Thanks.
Thanks, it helped me.
Synkroniseringen virker bra, men teksten legger seg oppå ny tekst og dekker til slutt hele skjermen, så programmet er helt meningsløst. Noen ideer?
The synch works but the subtitles are not dissapearing as a new one comes. The sub lays on top of eachother and fill up the whole screen. Any ideas what is wrong or is it supposed to be like this?
THANKZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…. FINALLY I CAME TO THE RIGHT PLACE…thank u very much
