When you purchase any branded laptop such as Acer, you’ll notice that it comes with Acer ePower Management pre-installed. As for Toshiba, you get Management Console and Power4Gear for Asus and etc. Those tools are automated smart power management which helps you save power on your battery. It is smart, but maybe not as smart as this free tool which I am about to show you that can control the hardware components of your notebook. If your laptop doesn’t comes with a power management software that can help you save battery power, you can try using this…
Notebook Hardware Control helps you to:
- control the hardware and system power management
- customize the notebook (open source ACPI Control System)
- prolong the battery lifetime
- cool down the system and reduce power consumption
- monitor the hardware to avoid system failure
- make your notebook quiet

There are just too many features to be mentioned here. You should check out the main features and also the advanced information before making any changes in CPU speed, voltage, and etc. If you set it wrongly, your Windows at laptop will be very unstable and will randomly shutdown without warning.
Notebook Hardware Control is most suitable to install and use it on notebooks. I have no problem installing Notebook Hardware Control on my desktop but a lot of features were unavailable. You must have Microsoft’s .NET Framework Version 2.0 or newer installed. Notebook Hardware Control runs on Windows 2000, XP or Windows Vista 32Bit.

can i install the software on my desktop PC??
Yes. You can. :D
Not bad. I use iStat Pro on my Mac :-)
Very nice! Too bad I\’m afraid to get this in case I tweak settings and screw my comp. :(
mark, you don\’t have to tweak anything individually if you don\’t want as there are a set of presets you can choose instead. All of which are easy to reverse, normally just a click or two to uncheck a box or two. For instance I use it instead of my Rock laptop\’s Windows XP Control Panel Power Options applet. I just set NHC\’s power option to the dynamic setting as this setting gives me a good mix of performance and battery life or power usage whether on battery power or mains. However, when you get to know the various options available you can then tweak a large number of settings to your hearts content.
The only feature that ever gives any trouble AIUI, if trouble is the right word, is the APIC tab. That trouble at worst only amounts to it not working or not working as expected, i.e. it won\’t read the right values. It also needs configuring for a laptop if you want to use it. However, if not configured for your laptop but left enabled it only acts as a temperature safety switch for the CPU, the actual safety temperature at which it switches off being settable.
However, to ease your worries, when you install it at first it takes it settings for the various options from your existing settings. For instance, if you have your Power settings set at mobile when you install NHC it will set itself to its equivalent setting. So installing it and running it is extremely unlikely to mess you laptop. It has never happened to me yet and I have used it for around three years or so on a largish number of laptops of various kinds and makes.
Thanks Raymond.
Using this program, I can run my laptop for at least 2 hours when it used to be only for 1 hour. Good software. Thanks a lot Raymond.
Unfortunately it doesn\’t display Hard Drive information on my laptop. It\’s very frustrating because probably that\’s the most important feature of the program…
I was using this tool for over i year, buy i gave it up since no updates were done to solve some bugs with new laptops, and new nvidia drivers. it works great on old laptops but now its outdated =(
Cool program, just be careful using it on Vista machines. When the processor slows too much the system is almost unusable. Hopefully the impending SP for Vista will solve this problem.
I tried out this program and my Vista laptop was comatose for almost 20 minutes until I was able to speed up my processor speed again. Dont you just love Vista? :-)
This program isn\’t working on Dell.
Is there some other same program that work\’s with Dell laptop\’s.?
Thanks.
There is a bugfix for Dell laptops at NHC homepage (Download section): “BUGFIX! If you have a Dell notebook or problems with the above version please use this bugfix version.”
Is there version that works on Vista 64bit?
