When a software has a problem and unable to run, the most common way of trying to solve the problem is by uninstalling the software and then reinstalling again. Sometimes it works and sometimes don’t. Imagine this. Your customer has a very small problem with Adobe Photoshop that is unable to use some effects. You then uninstall Adobe Photoshop and thought that reinstalling it will solve the problem. When you put in the Adobe Photoshop installation CD and ran setup, there is a message of the old adobe which was another version asking for the setup files and you’re unable to reinstall Adobe Photoshop.

Your customer knew that before you came, he was able to run Photoshop. The only problem was with the effects but now, Photoshop can’t even run. So how do you explain to your customer? If you’re unable to get photoshop running, is spending more time reformating the hard drive, reinstall windows and photoshop your only option? Before you do that, you can try cleaning up the installer entries.

With the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, you can remove a program’s Windows Installer configuration information. You may want to remove the Windows Installer configuration information for your program if you experience installation (Setup) problems. For example, you may have to remove a program’s Windows Installer configuration information if you have installation problems when you try to add (or remove) a component of your program that was not included when you first installed your program.

It’s easy to use. Just download, install and run Windows Install Clean Up from Start Menu. Look for the program name that you’re having problem reinstalling, select it and click the Remove button. Click OK at the next warning Window and the program name will be removed from your system.

Remember, this utility will only change registry values and files associated with the Windows Installer portion on the program. It will not remove many files from the computer and is only to be used as a last ditch attempt when dealing with a buggy program. Only use this program if Windows thinks that a program is installed but it is not. If you have a program that you cannot install, use this tool.
