Unfortunately even the final “stable” version of Firefox 3 is still crashing intermittently. Waited for nearly 2 weeks, but still no updates. This crashing problem is really annoying because it is intermittent and there is no way to replicate the problem. Firefox 3 can crash when opening a site with flash, opening a new tab, closing tab, filling up forms and etc… I’ve got really fed up with the problem and I had to find a solution.
Sometimes I’d get a screen that says “firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. For more information about this error, click here.”

Clicking the more information link shows that there is a problem with mozcrt19.dll at offset 00006c6c. Sometimes it is caused by other DLL files.

And sometimes Firefox 3 crash is caused by ModName unknown at offset 0521001d.

There are times that Firefox 3 just crashes and closes itself. Immediately after that Mozilla Crash Report window will show asking me to report the problem to Firefox developers.

Firstly, I uninstalled Firefox and deleted Firefox folders in Program Files. I then install a clean version of Firefox 3 and use a new profile. After using it for a while, Firefox 3 crashed again. It clearly shows that there are problems with Firefox 3 because I’ve already done a clean installation and using a new profile.
I tried using the latest Opera but somehow I am not used to it. Some of the shortcut keys and mouse clicks are different. One example is I need to simultaneously press CTRL + SHIFT + LEFT CLICK to open a link in a new tab. As for Firefox, it only requires CTRL + LEFT CLICK to open a link in a new tab… Another problem is some of the websites doesn’t display correctly in Opera.
I could revert back to Firefox 2 but I am so used to the speed in loading websites with Firefox 3. I remembered that the most stable version I used for Firefox 3 was RC1. What I did was I downloaded Firefox 3 RC1 Portable, extracted to my hard drive, copied my local profile to the portable version and voila, I am using Firefox 3 but no crashes. This is my temporary solution until the developer of Firefox fix the crashing problem. The local Firefox profile is usually installed in C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.???\ Just copy the contents of that folder (except the cache directories) to the FirefoxPortable\Data\profile directory.
I know that I will be exposed to security risk when using Firefox 3 RC1 but crashing few times a day is very annoying, unproductive and gets on my nerves. I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and it should protect my computer from any malicious codes that is vulnerable to Firefox 3 RC1.
Update: I noticed that an Add-on {972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}:3.0 is causing the crash. The weird thing is I don’t even have any add-on installed! I went to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\extensions and found a folder {972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd} with a install.rdf file inside. I removed the folder and so far it’s not crashing for me “yet”.

Thanks soooo much, Raymond. I found and deleted that folder a few hours ago. No new crashes, and they were happening several times an hour before.
For Mac users, here’s the traceback:
I found 972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd inside EXTENSIONS.RDF in VOPSQYPL.DEFAULT in PROFILES in APPLICATION SUPPORT in LIBRARY
Best wishes for crash-free cruising!
P.S. So, for Mac users, just delete the whole file EXTENSIONS.RDF
Never mind. I got on Twitter and Firefox3 crashed X 5. Back to the drawing board.

helpful, but i think i’ll go with the slower firefox 2. i’ve been having problems with firefox 3 ever since it was released. and it’s just not once or twice. or even a few times a day. it’s a few times every cupple minutes, stop for another cupple hours, then starts crashing again. crash with the average of 10 times or so a day. well it’s mac so it can’t be helped i guess. but windows? gah never responds. why? oh just cause i runed a window for games, it shouldn’t cause any problems though as it never did before. but now? not satisfied with the crashing or force quiting at all.
Hello,
I use windows xp and i have IE and Mozilla. Few days ago i started to have this problem with both of them. When i open some pages over internet, my internet window just shuts down… first it says it occured some problem and it needs to be closed and i have 3 options: debug, send report, don’t send report, and no matter which option i chose it just closes. I open my internet again and it asks me do i want to reopen those same pages and when i click yes it just happens again, and when i start a new session it is ok. So for example i can open facebook, but i cannot enter poker application cause it shuts down everything, and i can open some page on internet, but some other i can’t.. I don’t understand why.. :( I tried to clear cookies, cache, uninstall mozilla, reinstall, i don’t have any viruses according to spyware doctor and other than that i have a mouse problem too, my right button is not working so i have to copy and paste with keyboard. And I read somewhere that I should start my mozilla in safe mode in order to solve that mouse problem, so I did that and my mouse worked, and my poker worked too! I was so happy!!! And next day i turned it on again, and everything was same, i had that mouse problem, and poker problem, and on some other pages, that are not games, just normal google pages. So i tried that safe mode again, but it doesn’t work :(
Now, i did what you wrote too. I deleted {972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd and i went to poker again and it crashed again !!! What do i do??
It crashes for me at least 10 times a day and always when I am searching in Google. It is random.
how bout mine?
i got the latest one from the site.. so i was confident that it was pretty good installer
when i uninstalled my previous one, and installed the latest one, i cant use it. It keeps popping the “crashed message” so i was pretty pissed. anyone got the same problem as mine? what should i do? thanks in advance
i fixed mine now, hope it lasts.
i deleted the {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0007-ABCDEFFEDCBA at the extension folder
and hope it fixes others too
I’ve had this exact problem! I hope this tip works. I’ll try it and report back thank you very much 4 the advice and the tip though.

I think i know what the solution is.
I reinstalled my windows over and over again but still my firefox, chorme, IE, or opera crashes.so i took my friends advice to removed my video card from the motherboard and used the built-in instead. and then i reinstalled my windows again. and now it does not crash anymore. so now i need to replace a new video card.
my friend told me that we have the same prob;em but he has to replace some RAM. hope this helps.
The “temporary fix” provided by the author worked fine – no crashes any more ! — Thanks..
Ok…here we go, i went into the folder and saw the file described in this topic earlier. I moved the whole folder from that harddrive to another for testing and so far, it seems to be a viable solution. While testing, i proceeded to bombard Firefox with as many tabs and websites as i could and still no crash. Yes i know it’s the firefox basic theme file, but it could be that there is an issue within that very file that’s causing the crashes. I will however continue to test Firefox to see how well it holds up. I will post a comment tomorrow if there are no further issues.
Well, ain’t this a bitch, something is going on here and i really don’t think this shit is funny. I’d ratherv deal with IE8…least i know it don’t crash and it has had some improvements as far as the speed. So, to the Firefox tech team i say…dismantle and re-create…maybe then, you can figure out where you’ve fucked up at. Fuck Firefox…it’s back to IE for me.
Has anybody given it much thought that Microsuck may have released a update to deliberately cause all other browsers to crash? When i did a re-install of Windows, i had no problems with Firefox crashing until after Windows updates. Could the answer be the updates? Opera, Google Chrome, and Firefox has the crashing problem. And i have noticed that IE8 is even faster than the older versions. As much as i would hate to, IE8 may become my choice of browsers being as it doesn’t have these issues.
Ah, thanks! This settled up some contradictions I’ve heard.
I researched it some and found this website http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+crashes+when+loading+certain+pages?style_mode=inproduct#Problematic_or_out_of_date_extensions_or_themes
I disabled AVG and it’s working fine now.
Raymond help me! my Firefox is crash! i don’t know what to do!
