If everyone looks at the title it’s called “Which FREE Antivirus is the Lightest on System Memory Usage?” Other virus checkers were included just to complete the survey. Enough about ESET Nod 32, Kaspersky or Norton there not free & charge monthly rates & are more than likely responsible for the majority of the viruses out there today just to sell their programs. When you here such & such checker was the only one that found such & such virus that’s more than likely because such & such virus company created the virus & is the only one that knows about it. Screw the pay virus checkers we need more info on the hand full of free virus checkers that were left out of this survey.

Thanks for the info I hope you update it soon.

Unfortunately youve presumed that windows isnt lying to you ;-)

I am trying to get 1 working on an old 160mb laptop, and for example avira although it says its only using 7-8mb as a process, the total memory used has risen from 105mb with no virus killer to 177 with avira installed.
and when doing a system scan it rises to 253mb used.

so avira uses 72mb installed on default options, and 148 mb when scanning. Others are probably similar.

You might want to double check how much is used with a before and after comparison.

Other than that nice work :)

Thanks for all the work testing. It was informational and a great service. I do not understand why some of responders have a need for put-downs. Maybe they are green with envy.

An update on Kasperkey 2009 might be in order. I used your link and was taken to Kasperkey 2010, which is not free or shareware. The only option was three computers for $60.

Tested and Tried for almost 4 years now..
ESET smart security 3.0.669.0 rules the skies... :P
Currently running on slow computer and doesn't even feel
it running and almost prevented all kinds of viruses and trojans..

ESET:
Egui.exe - 1,5 MB
Ekrn.exe - 46 MB (stays that way all the time.. :P)

ESET uses the same cpu usage and maintains it so that
it can run a scan without consuming anymore of the free memory.. :P

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CPU 2.0Ghz(Intel Celeron)
256MB Ram
32Video Card
And runs like heaven till now... :P
