Few years back I wanted to become a DJ but then somehow it’s not really the kind of unhealthy lifestyle that I wanted because I have to stay up late every night, exposed to smokes and liquor everyday… I am very interested in remixes and I have a few friends who are really good DJs (Disc Jockeys). Once in a while they’d hang out in my place to jam with my Pioneer CDJ-1000MK2 players. We’d exchange songs, scratches, beats, tips, audio software and etc.

One thing that DJs always needs to do is look for really cool and funny sound from movies or video clips on Youtube or any other video hosting sites. Once we’ve extracted the audio from the DVD movie or online videos, we can use it for scratching or even to include into our own remixes. I thought I should write a guide on how to do that so that every DJs in the world would know how to get their own audio from any video source.

There are a few video sources such as online videos (youtube) usually in FLV extensioin, DVD or VCD which comes in DAT or VOB, and finally the most popular compressed video file format, AVI. I am sure that there are some shareware that can support extracting audio from all types of video extensions but I will only be sharing you the free method on how to do that.

1. Extracting audio from online videos sites such as YouTube, MetaCafe, DailyMotion and Google Video to MP3

- There are many ways to download the whole video from YouTube or any video sites. Usually the downloaded video will be in FLV format. Here is a very popular small tool called FLV Extract that extracts video and audio from FLV files without decompressing or recompressing. The video is saved as AVI (H.263/FLV1 and VP6/VP6F) or raw elementary stream (H.264/AVC). The audio is saved as MP3, AAC (with ADTS headers), or WAV (PCM).

- If you only need to get the audio from a video in YouTube, you could go to either websites below to convert YouTube flash video to MP3 audio. All you need to do is to enter the YouTube URL, wait for a few seconds and you get to download the MP3 file. All is done on the server without you doing anything.

    2. Extracting audio from DVD .vob or VCD .dat to MP3
