There are so many things we can do in a computer. One of my favorite is running FTP service so I can access my files whenever I am. However, due to security reasons, I do not leave the FTP port 21 open all the time. I only turn it on when I am going somewhere and I need to access my files from there. I do that to avoid chances of hackers breaking in (either using bruteforce cracking or exploit) to my FTP to steal my data. It is safe, but troublesome and sometimes I even forget to enable the FTP service when I really needed it. There are times I even forget to disable the service and left it running for weeks!

That is only ONE service we’re talking about. What if you have many other service such as VNC, Telnet, RDP, HTTP, P2P, and etc? You’d be leaving so many ports open and hackers could take their time trying to discover any way to break in your computer through all those open ports. Here is a nice tool that we can use to remotely start programs, stop services, manage processes, uninstall software and etc over the Internet. This can actually be done if you can remotely access the computer using VNC, Remote Desktop Connection, LogMeIn and etc but the difference is this application has stealth mode which is possible to hide from all kind of port scanners.

The A-A-S Application Access Server is a free tool that makes the PC administration possible over LAN and WANs. With the built-in “Stealth Mode” it allows the PC administration possible without port scanner notice the host service. The control is carried out over a built-in HTML server. All you need is a HTML browser such as IE or Firefox on the client side.

There is a configuration setting where you can set the maximum amount of wrong logins. Once a user has reached the maximum simultaneously wrong logins, the user will be blacklisted and can never access the server even if he has the right password. The only way for the user to get back on the server is for restart the AAS server again.

    • Below is a screenshot showing that I can start and stop DHCP server, launch notepad with maximized window, and Winamp as minimized, only by using Internet Explorer or your favorite web brower. There are a lot more I can add to the list from the Application section in Configurations. Other than that, I can also give rights to users that can start/stop an application.
    Starting a service

    The Silent and Stealth port mode offers better security for AAS. The silent port mode causes the A-A-S to react only if you entered the correct port keyword at the end of the URL. An example: http://192.168.1.2:6262/KeywordHere. If you only enter the IP address and port, you’d get only a blank page. As for stealth mode, the only way for you to access the AAS server is through AAS_Login.exe, a portable login tool for AAS.
