It surely sounds easy to disable services which we don’t need but there are nearly 200 services entries on a computer running Windows Vista Business SP1. If we disabled the wrong ones, it may lead to many problems like failure in launching some Windows applications, performance problems, security risks or in some cases a total system crash. I wouldn’t advice a novice computer user to mess around with Vista services if you’re not familiar with it or even if you’re referring to guides that BlackViper or Tweakhound created because there are some terms or computer jargon which you may not understand. The best way is to use this free software which I found that is able to safely optimize Vista by disabling unnecessary Vista services.
Vista Services Optimizer is a free and perfect tweaking utility that can improve your Windows Vista Performance and security with a simple mouse click, by tweaking Windows services in an automatic and a very safe way according to the way you use your computer and which software are installed on your system.

Vista Services Optimizer also enables you to tweak Windows Vista services manually for advanced users who need more control over Windows services in an easy and safe way. Other than that, it also provides you with detailed information about certain services and enables you to query some services information using Google or Yahoo search engine to help you identify some of Windows services function.
Even if somehow your computer running Vista got messed up because of Vista Services Optimizer, all you need to do is to run the program, go to Rescue Center and use the Express Services Restore. This will undo any changes that Vista Services Optimizer has made to your Vista services configurations.
Vista Services Optimizer obviously only works on Windows Vista. It supports both 32bit and 64bit version of Vista and requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1 installed in order to run. You can easily check if you have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed by using ASoft .NET Version Detector, SmallestDotNet or .NET Version Check. Before you start optimizing your computer by disabling Vista services, I’d like to stress out that you should understand what each service means and disable only those which you think your system would not use. Please don’t disable all of them because it’s like you trying your best to save electricity by turning off the main power switch. You’ll end up with nothing but problems.

thanks, could be useful if used correctly
i’ll give it a try
This is a strange application, I had it for a while and it crashed more often than Vista did. Now I’m back to XP:)
It’s better to pay a few bucks for Yamicsoft Vista Manager.
Did the program itself crash or make your Windows Vista crash? The latest version of Vista Services Optimizer is out of beta. Make sure you run Web Update after installation to download the latest stable version. If Windows Vista crashed after disabling some services, you can go to rescue center to restore back the disabled services.
Thanks Raymond
Is having about 50% RAM usage normal?
It depends on how much RAM you have on your computer. My laptop running Vista Business has 2GB of RAM and 730MB has been used up. I guess that’s pretty normal.
still in beta so i think thats not yet stable, but worth to try
Thank you raymond.
Yes, Raymond, it was the application itself crashing…
what I’m wondering if I already had SP1 installed???
Well, anyway, I’m back to XP. If the program works ok for you and others then why not give it a try…
And thanks for all nice tips and tricks you have posted:)
good information
to Raymond
its not normal, my laptop with Vista ultimate use ~512mb ram
So it doesn’t work with windows 7 ?
i installed vista home basic recently.for the miost part it is good, but,
it is such a resource hog.I have 2 gb ram and the system eats up 700-800 MB ram even when it is idle…[i dont have any useless softwares/bloatware installed]
hope this helps..
webcadre: after doing a “live” update from the program, it will no longer be beta.
nivek: the program’s name is “Vista” Services Optimizer, don’t think it is meant to support Windows 7.
I too used this program, however, it caused some major issues within vista… it also doesn’t support 64 bit very well, I tried to beta test for the author of the program, but Like Juhani said, the program itself crashed!
I used it, I finally got a link:
http://download39.mediafire.com/hwbze2dm3lbg/xy11t1mmmiz/vso_1118.msi
Link here was not working and it installs and works fine in Windows Vista Home Premium 32 – bit.
My system feels like it’s had a good service.
It’s speedier and feels nearly new.
Thanks Raymond for the knowledge.
may be useful
I’ve used the settings on blackviper.com but this program is very easy to use. Would definitely recommend it to others. Although my system was already optimized I noticed a difference after using the program (about five per cent drop in RAM usage).
I made the mistake of checking that I don’t use printers, but as I create PDFs (doPDF – free printer driver), all I had to do is fire the program back up and un-check the printer option. Then it worked. So simple!!
I was wondering why my laptop was able to run 80 services at a go, use more than 50% RAM, and still work fairly fast. My XP laptop would only use under 50 processes and would drastically reduce after about 60!!! This is a good tool. Thanx Ray.
Just some further notes on this application, I found that recently a desktop application stopped working, well it displayed the splash only.
I decided to do a restore, same thing.
The application is Kodak AiO Home Center.
I actually traced it to this program Vista Services Optimizer v1.1.18.1
So to remind one-n-all, be careful with this program, it’s good, just don’t disable everything it suggests, do your homework first.
raymond which is better vista services optimizer or system care??if i have system care should i download vista services optimizer to and unstall the system care??
Hi,
I disabled unnecessary vista services and my language bar disappear. I can’t use any languages except English. I can’t switch them and can’t change language at all. I select option in install additional languages to show language bar, but when I apply it or push OK – nothing happen.
Any help will be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Imanuel
