Microsoft has provided an article on how to uninstall the 2007 Office system if you cannot uninstall it by using the “Add or Remove Programs” feature. The steps is very long and involves searching and deleting a lot files including registry keys. Fortunately I found a small tool called Remove Office 2007 that is able to strip out Microsoft Office 2007 when the standard uninstall process wont work.
Remove Office 2007 is only 128KB in size and is able to remove only only Office 2007. I’ve ran this tool on my customer’s computer and it was able to uninstall the pre-installed Microsoft Office 2007. All you need to do is to click the OK button and it will do the rest.

Do take note that this tool automatically restarts the computer when it has finished deleting all the services, files and registry that belongs to Office 2007. After reboot, your operating system will try to look for the Office MSI installer again. Canceling the setup will take care of it.
Remove Office 2007 doesn’t have a close button where you can close the program if you don’t want to uninstall office. You’ll have to launch Windows Task Manager (right clicking the Taskbar and select Task Manager), and kill the RipOutOffice2007.exe process. A useful tool that is going in to my USB flash drive which I bring along with me when I service computers.

Hello.
An excellent tool …. !
Thanks al lot Ray
Stef.
What if I got Office Enterprise? Can I install it over the pre-install Office 2007? Or do I need to remove the program first?
thanks! was about to uninstall mine and install openoffice when i read this article LOL
this was very timely, thanks, and i just encountered this problem today. however, i have some issues:
1) after removing Office 2007, there is left behind a program called “activation assistant for the 2007 microsoft office suites.” I am not able to uninstall this in a regular manner – i get the error message “setup resource not found”
2) during the uninstall process, the program “remove office 2007″ decided that it could restart my computer without me giving any permission.
Please help me with regard to #1. Thanks
It is my experience that microsoft’s own tool Windows installer cleanup ( support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 ) never fails to remove such problematic packages as long as they are Windows installer packages.
In fact i suspect that “Remove Office 2007″ leaves the setup files that were copied to your HD during the installation ( since you say the OS will lok for them after reboot) and Windows installer cleanup might still be able to remove those after using “Remove Office 2007″.
Thanks mate, cheers!
T,m going to switch over to a portable HDD instead of USB stick to carry around with me, for all thestuff I get from here.
Hope you’ll be around for a LONG time.
Thanks.

Greetings mate,
Thanks for your valuable tip. I use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall the pre-install Office 2007 for few of my friends PC without any prob. CCleaner has also a feature for you to uninstall programs : Tools > Uninstall. Anyway shall try your recommendation mate. Keep up the good work Raymond. I like visiting your site. Thanks.
Another piece of info that could be of use:
If you install a copy of MS Office (full license) on a computer that already has the trial version installed, the full license may not take effect.
A customer of mine bought a HP Laptop from Singapore. He simultaneously picked up a copy of MS Office for Small Business.
The laptop came pre-installed with MS O2K7 Standard Trial. When I installed the licensed MS O2K7 software over the trial, the installation & activation went smoothly.
However, everytime the Office applications were started, they displayed a ‘limited’ version message on the title bar and would work only in read-only modes on the files.
Help->About reported the actual license correctly but the program refused to function as required.
Uninstalling the Trial version from using Control Panel->Programs & Features instantly helped. The Office programs started operating normally.
HTH
just find and use the thinapp version, no installation
Does anobody knows if the MAPI problem is solved if you install a Office 2003 after you uninstalled the 2007???

i used the tool and now when i try to access yazak, it tries to install ms office, but cant find it. guess it needs something to run it thats missing now. i was going to delete this before, then i read something from ms saying that it had files that other software might need to operate, so i didnt try it.
this is great!!
I use PC Decrapifier, but some AV detected it as threat, but fret not, it’s OK..
I used that uninstaller tool to remove my Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007. After restart it says it was sucessful but once i clicked on the add/remove program, it tries to find back the Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 using windows installer. Although i cancelled it, i still find the Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 with reduced storage in te add/remove programs. I tried to click remove an it freezes for some time until it says that the laguage is not supported by my system. Then I found on the Start button ‘new software installed’ and found the microsoft office 2007 still there but only that it can’t be opened. What to do?
Hi Raymond

I personally think that this tool needs improving, if it could remove everything it had to so as to allow a fresh reinstall of Microsoft Office 2007 it would indeed be a “worldbeater”. Bill Gates and his Gremlins dont give a flying F**K that this is a serious & frustrating problem for 95% of microsoft users who haven”t got a degree in I.T. The official way to uninstall manually is by far too complex and risky for the highest majority of users. I suggest until then that Raymond or whoever can come up with a solution to resolve the issue of reinstalling Office 2007 after using the “removal tool”..!!
THANK YOU, your program works wonderful, I’ve been with a corrupt office 2007 for months, nothing can fix it, but your program saved my computer from unnecessary reformat. consider me a fan now..
Run-time error ‘2147024891 etc etc
unable to save shortcut: C:Programdata\startmenu\programs\startup\removeoffice.ink\ …wtf
Hello Raymond,
I recently installed Microsoft Office 2007 60 day trial, my computer is a Dell and it came with microsoft office 2003 hard installed, I have no disk copy. When I installed the trial version of 2007, I opted not to install the outlook part because I have over a thousand address and saved emails for my business. Well 2007 was causing problems with the 2003 Outlook so today I decided to uninstall 2007.
I used the add / remove utility to uninstall 2007 and it looked like it was doing just that, but when I went to my word 2003 it opened word 2007. So I came to your site and downloaded the “RipOutOffice2007″ program and used it to uninstall all office 2007 products. It took awhile but it worked flawlessly and then ask if I’d like to continue, I clicked yes and the program proceeded to uninstall “something MSI”… word 2003 (I wasn’t paying real close attention and just caught a glimpse of the window that came up . I stopped it immediately and went to the task manager to shut it down. But the damage had already been done.
So I restored my system to just before I uninstalled 2007 and the desktop icons for 2007 and 2003 came back. But when I click on an office 2007 icon a window opens and reads: “This action is only valid for products that are currently installed”, also 2007 is still showing in the add / remove utility and some files still exist when I open explorer. When I click an office 2003 icon a window opens and reads: “This patch package cannot be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify this is a valid window installation patch package.”
I checked Microsoft help and support and found an article ID: 295823 that addressed the “patch package” issue as follows: Download, install, and then run the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove the Windows Installer registry settings that are associated with your Office installation. Then Run Office Setup to reinstall Office. So, using this utility I click on all the office 2007 products and removed them. I also noticed that Microsoft office basic edition 2003 was on this list but I did not remove it because I don’t have a disk for office 2003. How do I get rid of office 2007 and where do I get office 2003?
I could really use some insight into fixing this problem.
Thank you
Hi Raymond/Guys,
I dont find any exe file when uncompressing Rip out office file, it shows up as a notepad file, if moved or deleted kindly send me the same into this email add above, many thanks.
I desperately need to remove this preinstalled office 2007, in my new Vista Machine, thanks a million.
Simon
Guys, I ve a daunting problem I simply cant address, I tried looking through all the posts and user comments.
I ve got a vista machine, where it had a preinstalled office 2007 trial, I tried several times removing it, but failed untill I installed a Office 2007 Enterprise but then it keeps showing the “non commercial use” bar. I cannot install any important updates like sp1, sp2 and many other, it gives the 80070643 error, even leaving the ose in Auto (delayed start).
I tried following the MS suggested steps though long, certain office program strings just could not be uninstalled. Untill I came across your ripoffice2007 file, I tried it last nyt, it practically went a long way reinstalling, end up with an error however showing a “dos prompt like black window”, followed by an error stating cannot save ….. ….. of RipOffice or so.
Which left me with a unfinished and many resident office file, how can I avoid this and do a full office removal, hoping one of your techie guys would find some time for a response to remedy.
I tried reinstalling a fresh office 2007, but then appears most registry keys remain so I just got back my earlier office version on “non commercial use only”.
Cheers, kudos to the great informative blog and resource !
Thank you,
SAM

Thanks Ray. I’ve been looking for this!!!
I still cant install office from the original disc.
I´ve tried everything….
I had the trial version, i tried to uninstall it but i had to do it manually.
Now everytime that i try to install it, it finds an error.
please help
I had my computer crashed and restored to the original state. When I got it home I installed Micrsoft office works 2003, well it automatically updated to 2007. My only problem is, I use auto Text to program words. Auto text will allow you to program it where after you type a few letters, it will pull up words you have programmed and all you have to do is hit ENTER and the word is automatically tyed in. A big time saver for a medical transcriptionist. Anyway, 2007 does not have it or I can’t find it. 2007 has Building Blocks. HELP!!!
This finally helped me clean up my Laptop! Thank you!
Thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks
I almost gave up uninstalling all the office trial crap pre-installed (I do like MS Office, but will not install it on this computer and certainly do not want to have the “opportunity” to test it).
This uninstaller just works great.
this tool is soooooooooooo damn good!!!!!!!!!excellent!!!!!!!!!
RipOutOffice2007 didn’t work for me. All the Registry keys are still there, not allowing me to reinstall the full version. I guess I’m stuck doing a manual uninstall. Nice idea, but just didn’t do it.
How do I know if it’s working? I clicked the GO button multiple times and nothing seems to be happening… I even went into task manager to see if it was running in the background but I cant find RipOutOffice2007.exe in the processes menu… Any ideas?
i downloaded microsoft office 2007 trail then it expires after 60 days.. so theres nothing to do. I Uninstall it but i dont get my old 2005 back… How does that work?? can anyone plzzz help me. thanks
