That is when link checkers come in handy. Rapidshare provides free link checking facility called Rapidshare Checker at their homepage. It is, therefore, advisable to check the integrity of the links before starting to download files from the file hosts. But, it is cumbersome to check the links every time on their homepage. Today, I’m going to show you a method (for Firefox users only) on how to automatically let Firefox check the integrity of links of various file hosts while you visit the page with download links.
Method 1
1. Download Greasemonkey add-on and install it in your Firefox.
2. Download Rapidshare Links Checker User Script from here and install the User script using GreaseMonkey.
3. Restart Firefox
Now, whenever you go to a webpage that contains Rapidshare, Megaupload, Filefactory, etc links, this User Script will come into play. If it finds dead links, it’ll have an X icon at the end of the link and a checkmark icon for a valid working link.

Method 2
Here is another script for Greasemonkey called Universal Link Checker which claims to check links for the following websites: rapidshare.de netload.in easy-share.com mediafire.com megashares.com depositfiles.com vip-file.com yourfilehost.com sendspace.com filebase.to link-protector.com bitroad.net vip-file.com filenavi.com uploadbox.com zshare.net letitbit.net
You can install this GreaseMonkey script in the same way as described in Method 1 above. This script is created by the user who created RapidShare Links Checker but it works differently in background.
Method 3
There are many Firefox add-ons which work in a similar fashion but their working is limited to only Rapidshare. One of such add-on is RSE Tools for Firefox.

Features of RSE Tools:
Getting Rapidshare links from a specific page Testing selected Rapidshare links on a page Search Rapidshare files for selected terms using RSE (Rapidshare-Search-Engine)
Method 4 (Added by Raymond)
Here is another Greasemonkey script called AIO Links Checker which work very similarly as Rapidshare Links Checker because it is based on it except it is claimed to be smaller and faster by the author.
Note: I personally prefer Method 1 as Method 2 sometimes doesn’t work at many occasions and it impacts your Internet bandwidth to some extent. So, I’d recommend Method 1.

Note by Raymond: The idea of this article seemed pretty easy but yet I have not think about this even though I am a heavy Rapidshare and Megaupload downloader. Now I don’t need to spend too much effort in looking for working or dead rapidshare links anymore. From what I’ve tested, there are times when method 1 is unable to check megaupload link while method 4 works perfectly. If you are already using RapidShare AutoWait script for greasemonkey, pairing it with RapidShare Link Checker script will give you even more convenience in automating downloading multiple parts. Thanks Utkarsh for this useful tip!

Thanks ray
thanx for sharing !!!
nice one
All we have to do is to ask Raymond. Thanks for this useful infos and link. Checking rapidshare links is useful directly from the browser and its professional.
Thanks Dear Raymond.
Good article ray… But I recommend u post another method by using
The Cavern Links Checker
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/29222
I thinks that is the greatest script to check the link status
Been using it, but sometimes active links are shown as dead ones, still awesome! Cheers mate!
Hey raymond what tool did you use to get that animation working in your kaspersky offline update post? Waiting for your answer. I know it is a animated gif but how to make it?
There is another plug-in called ”
Unofficial RapidShare Tools ” (http://www.unofficial.rs/)
Or you could simply use Cryptload instead of all these firefox addons. (many tabs open = additional memory usage by FF)
Thanks for the info though.
Not free but jDownloader checks the links for MANY download sites at the time of adding the URL to the DL List and if one is dead, you can abort putting it into the DL list. But I find that “sometimes” a link will show up dead now but later on in the day, that same link will be alive again. And conversely, a link that shows “live” at the time of adding the URL to the DL list, may show up as dead when jD gets around to downloading it. Thus, I have ClipMate Explorer or other clipper running all the time and don’t take them off of that list until they have downloaded as I usually trash the email that the download list came in. Just a thought… and thanks Raymond for all your great information.

Hey Ray,
Correct me if i am wrong……….i heard something about grease monkey addon stating that it captures the user name and password ( credit cards) and sends its to some remote servers about amonth back.since then i don’t use any addon except no scripts, keyscrambler and verification engine….so guys be careful when you install addons…..for that matter.. any addons.
regards,
amay
Been using the first method for a while now and it is a must in my view.really saves so much time when trying to download links.
@Amay Raikar:
That’s purely BS.
Greasemonkey plug-in for Firefox is legit.
I agree with mafia87
The Cavern Links Checker

Really great script but will give a try to this also cause I love you Ray
Try:
http://www.filemirrors.info

Aš tai nesiparinu…

Or you can just download JDownloader and have it check the links, AND handle the downloads, AND have it extract your files from any format automatically.
