The only way we can put multiple antivirus software on a computer is if we can disable the real-time protection, self-defense and only use it for on-demand scanning. Well if we wanted to scan a single file using on-demand scan, we could upload it to Virustotal and have it scan with 40 antivirus but the problem is Virustotal distributes the file to antivirus company. Trojan coders usually wouldn’t use Virustotal because obviously they don’t want their trojan to get detected.
I recently found a tool called Multi AV Scan developed by Gakh from HackHound that allows you to run on-demand scan using 10 types antivirus on your computer.
Multi AV Scan currently supports A-Squared, Avira AntiVir, BitDefender, ClamWin, DrWeb, Ikarus, McAfee, Solo, Sophos and VBA32. There are a few similar tools such as Multi AV Fixer, KIMS, ScanLix and Mini AV Scanner but they are all no longer in development except Multi AV Scan.

Multi AV Scan works but it’s a little buggy. You have to put the file that you want to scan in the same folder as MultiScan.exe or else the program will say Scanning the whole time without progress. Also if you’re using Avira AntiVir, you need to place Avira license key HBEDV.KEY (where you can get it for free here) file in \AVs\AntiVir\ folder. As for the updates, it takes quite a while to download and update all virus definition signatures. Another issue that I encounter is it takes 99% CPU usage during updating and scanning.
Do take note that Multi AV Scan is not meant to replace the antivirus installed on your computer that has real-time protection. The upcoming Multi AV Scan v1.6.2 will include 2 more antivirus which is Kapersky and VirusBuster. You can download Multi AV Scan from this thread in HackHound forum. There are 3 parts to download from RapidShare.

Thanks for the useful info!!!
Ah. Nice. I remember asking about this before. But I knew about this way back.
I
Tried to add another antivirus pro version together with avast pro but that antivirus (I dont recall which one) detected the presence of avast and asked to remove it otherwise they will step on each other and make the system unstable!
Some said that norton and mcAfee run fine together but slowed the pc.
But having another tool along the real antivirus (which have realtime detection) is possible with malwarebytes antimalware that have the realtime protection disabled.
i use several realtime anti-virus programs at the same time – a2 antimalware (ikarus antivirus engine), spyware doctor with antivirus, VIPRE (sunbelt) and threatfire for picking up viruses/malware that hasn’t been put into databases yet. It hasn’t caused any crashes or bluescreens yet, and I have not seen any appreciable performance deficit on my vista 64 laptop.
I also use SuperAntispyware, MalwareBytes, spybot, and adaware to scan my entire computer from time to time, but i don’t keep them loaded all the time.
if you have any suggestions/comments on my antivirus scheme, please let me know.
Some times ago I find Cobra Security 2010, also have a lots of different antivirus tools and utilities in one package, plus online backup, PC optimization and encryption modules. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Cobra-Security-2010-Complete-Edition.shtml , Try it,but think its a really waste time, because all modules do not work correctly, some utilities is highly outdated, and I had two trojans in NOD32 scanner, also Prevx AV provide realtime protection but not free, in order to get real protection need to buy full license. It will be great if you Ray check this app,if not before and write your own review, and sorry if this comment not fully about your current post.

Thanks for the tip mate, very useful!
most dangerous malwares, are trojans, i know few things about viruses and antiviruses, to ensure you have good protection for your pc/laptop, one must get an anti trojan program with an internet security software or total protection.
using mcafee total protection+trojan remover can garantie a safe machine,
Ray, i had a question about how to back up the entire c:\ drive with all the latest softwares, updates, drivers and so, is that possible to burn it on cds?
it will be a big help for me, and sure for many ppl,
thanks in advance
For years I have used multi AV’s and firewalls. I use AVG, Trend Micro, and CA, also SuperAnti spyware. To date “knock on wood” I have not been attack or contracted a Virus or an worms trojans etc. Once a month I run a scan with “shields up” to check for open ports. I have no slow down in my computer nor do I suffer from the blue screen. I won’t use Norton’s programs because they are so bloated that the computer has to take a lunch break every hour. However I will use their security check and it always passes. I have no slow down in processing and like I said I just have no problems with my computer.
Installing one antivirus like avira, AVG, avast etc. along with ThreatFire is also a good option, ThreatFire works on the concept of behavioral anlysis, so it doesnt bother the other signature based antivirus, this combo can also be used to ensure a more secure system.
Thanks Raymond.
I use Avira Internet Security 9 like my main antivirus program with real-time protection. New BitDefender free edition 2009 and portable Kaspersky Antivirus 2009 provided by Bernat, like additional virus scanners and removers. Couple of these 3 apps replace all of others and give a total shield from any kind of viruses for PC.
what must be the best combinations of anti virus that can be used???
I use Norton.
I think it doing a good job for my PC
There is a problem with having multiple on-demand scanners running at the same time. Doing so can actually prevent the virus/Trojan from actually being removed (multiple programs trying to access it, while preventing each other from actually removing it). Having one good full-time running AV with a few backup scanners is the best way.
Hi raymond….can u please upload that multi av scan 1.6.1 to filesharing hosting couse i cannot enter that hackhound.org website…..please….
As I mentioned on this forum I play with 3 PCs..
On one of them (Legal XP Home edition) I run AVAST Home and AVIRA (free) + Spyreware terminator (Active shield) + Comodo Firewall PRO without any problem.
The fact is that this machine is a new computer Intel 2 QUAD (4 cores) and 2 GB RAM.
Possibly that new multi core processors can handle even 3 antiviruses running alongside (like in my case)
I tried on another machine (2 cores) – same but slowed down machine abit (not much) (I used kaspersky 2009 + Avira free + Comodo + Spyreware terminator).
On my older single core computers I haven’t tried to run so much shieds… possibly may cuse some system unstable actions.
But 4 core machines – folks – no problem at all – even using old XP SP3 !!!
Just to warn you – I never try kinky configuration on my laptop.. but in fact I use it exclusivelly to work not to play and “cruise dark sides of the net”.
I need to use some certified programs to do my job and they are Windows programs (no equivalents on Linux)
Folks – good to have at least 2 machines or at least 2 HDDs…
If one HDD – try some easy linux e.g. Ubuntu (CD edition, pendrive edition, or simply install on one partition) to visit dangerous sites, P2P etc.
(Log in as not administrator off course)
This way you will keep Windows clean – ready for job, bank remittances ect.
This should prevent all of you in 100 % !!!
I play this way, had found this forum few days ago as I want one of my suspected “baby” to be clean as my friend to whom I gave my PC for 3 weeks condaminated my machine and I scan this machine with every possible AV (made already 7 different scans), some detected trojan, malware, another one nothing, since last one found one object.
I think I’m going paranoic ;-P
Yeea I know, “don’t give toothbrush, wife and… PC to anybody”
canbe used avaST WHIL;E INSTALLING AVIRA S REAT TIME ,WHILE INSTALLING AVAST DISABLE THE RESIDENT PTOTECTION
Avira AntiVir Personal Edition: During the install, under “Choose Installation Type” select “Custom”, and under “Install Components” untick “AntiVir Guard”.
Avast! Home Edition: During the install, under “Configuration” select “Custom”, and untick all the items under “Resident Protection”.
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition: In the interface, open the “Resident Shield Component” and untick “Resident Shield Active”.
SUNKUMARSPACE – we know that what you wrote – I simply stated that running 2 AV shilds on modern procssor is NO PROBLEM.
)… taking lot of processsor usage having 3 shields (2 AV + 1 Antispyreware) anabled and… computer runs fast.
They do not interact eachother.
On one machine I play modern games (if weather poor and wife permits
I do not force anybody to instal “over protection”- just sharing my finding (see my post above)
hi, raymond, thanks this trick i never thought its possible before
Thansk for the news, my favourites online scanners are:
http://scanner.novirusthanks.org/
and
http://scanner.virus.org/
To use manual or local programs like that is hard, but is a good trick.

Nice article! I’m using Antivir and that’s work perfect for me and it’s free!
Just register on hackhound.org and you can see the topics, takes 3 secs mate.
Hello,
Has anyone else had a malware warning on this scanner?
A-squared came up with a warning that the main executable file – “MultiScan.exe” is infected with “Trojan.ATRAPS!IK”
Is it or is it not a false postive?
Metascan comes with up to 8 pre-installed licensed engines from AVG, ESET, CA and others.
