One of my customer yesterday complained to me that she was unable to eject the a DVD disc out of her MacBook. If you don’t know what MacBook is, the MacBook is a Macintosh notebook computers by Apple. I was so confident thinking that surely all CD or DVD drives has a little pin hole on the face of the drive where you can force eject the disc out by inserting a pin. So I told her to get a paper clip, straighten and insert it to the pin hole. I was a little embarrassed when I couldn’t find a pin hole on MacBook!
How to manually eject a stuck disc in Macbook
The worst part about a CD or DVD stuck in a MacBook is, it keeps on trying to read the disc and can’t boot in to Mac OS. This problem makes the MacBook unusable until you remove the stuck disc. At first I tried booting up the MacBook and hold the “N” key, thinking that it won’t read the disc and will try to boot up using network, but it is still reading the disc! What’s wrong with Mac?!?

Actually removing a stuck CD or DVD from MacBook is pretty easy if you know how. Before sending your MacBook to get the stuck disc out, try the steps below and it might save your time and money!

When I attended a Mac OS X basic class, the teacher introduced a very neat feature called Hot Corners.
Hot Corner for Windows
Hot Corners is a feature where an action will be performed when you move your mouse to any of the 4 corners of your screen. At first I didn’t know what so great about it but the teacher explained further… Activating screen saver to lock your computer is so much faster with Hot Corners. Another example is, let’s say you are viewing some websites that you don’t want other people to know. When you notice someone is standing behind you or walk pass you, you can immediately move your mouse to a corner to show your Desktop and hide the rest of the programs.

That’s when I realize that this Hot Corners feature in Mac OS X is a gem. When I got back to Windows, unfortunately there is no such feature. I wonder why not Microsoft go ahead and integrate this handy feature in Windows when they’ve already copied quite a few feature from Apple’s Mac OS?

Windows users now can get a feel of Hot Corners feature by installing this free tool which I am about to show you.

The last time I blogged about how to install Mac OS X on Intel and AMD computer was how to do it with version 10.4.3.
Apple Mac OS X latest version is 10.4.6 and it’s always advisable to update your system to the most current state.
Sad to say that you won’t be able to update your Mac OS X from 10.4.3 to 10.4.6 if you installed Mac OS X 10.4.3 on your Intel or AMD computer using the method I showed last month.
Actually you SHOULD be able to use Apple Mac OS X Software Update but after complete downloading and installing the updates, you won’t be able to boot up your Mac OS X on your Intel or AMD system :(
Today I will show you 2, yes TWO method on how to have Apple Mac OS X 10.4.6 on your Intel or AMD computer ;)

Yesterday I blogged about remote controlling Mac OS X from Windows by installing VNC server on Mac OS X which is very troublesome due to the conflict with Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) on port 5900.
Today I found a much easier way to access Mac OS X via Windows.

Windows XP and Windows 2003 has a built-in Remote Desktop for you can see the desktop of a remote machine and control it with your local mouse and keyboard, just like you would do it sitting in the front of that computer.
Let me give you an example of what remote access if you’re still unsure.
Lets say I am in Singapore and my mum is in HongKong. My mum called me and told me that she doesn’t know how to insert a picture in a Word document. It’s very expensive to explain it over on the phone. What I can do is to connect to my mum’s computer and I will insert the picture to a Word document while she watch how it’s being done. I can actually control the remote computer without me being there.

Okay, back to what I want to post. I have 3 Apple Mac OS X Servers on a rack and I would want to remote control it on my Windows XP notebook. Apple does have a built-in Apple Remote Desktop (ARD), but I couldn’t find anything about using Windows to remote access Apple through ARD.

Memory Test for MacOS X

Since MacOS X is evolving, so is the amount of softwares…
There is already memory testing software for linux and dos, now Tony Scaminaci has ported the open-source Memtest command line utility originally authored by Charles Cazabon to test memory on Linux platforms to Max OS X.

It seems weird why such a big company Microtek with 25 years of Digital Imaging Excellence provides such a confusing and non complete driver updates for a scanner which I tried to install today.
I tried to install Microtek ScanMaker 5800 on an Apple G5 running with Mac OS X 10.4.5.
Install Microtek ScanMaker 5800 on Mac OS X 10.4.5
I plugged in the A/C power and turned on the power, there is no light on the LED. I thought that there was a problem with the power output on the socket so I changed to another power socket. Still the same thing!
Perhaps Microtek made is such way for some reasons. I then plugged in the USB cable and nothing happened. It doesn’t detect and install like in Windows XP where you’ll see an icon on the traybar stating that it found a new device.
I then check Mac’s System Profiler and looked at the USB, and there listed ScanMaker 5800.
So it confirms that it’s able to detect my scanner but still couldn’t function without drivers.
