Attempted to use backup disks I made when I first got my desktop but disks were not "recognized". Called HP for vista disk replacement and as told it had been phased out..... loaded win xp to atleast have minimal word processing for schoolwork and really want my system running.... Can't! afford upgrade right now... Have my HP laptop and its recovery partitioned on an external drive but need help with my desktop. Can I use laptop backup to install vista on desktop?

,,HP desktop with Vista. HD crashed. Purchased new HD (same as original seagate model).
