ICQ is one of the oldest instant messaging program since 1996 and is still available to download and use as of today although it has gone through a few changes in ownership, from Mirabilis to AOL and finally Mail.ru. Just like any other instant messenger, it comes with a status feature that allows you to set if you’re Available, Away, Busy, Invisible, Free for chat or even your customized mood. All of the status shows that you’re online but displays a different icon but the invisible status hides you from being shown as online while you can still see who is online on your contact list. When people from your contact sends you an offline message, there is always a possibility to deny that you’ve seen it because you can just tell them that you’ve not gone online in ICQ hence did not read the message.
The invisible status feature also allows you to temporarily block a person by selecting the “Appear invisible to contact” from the right click context menu without actually putting them in block list. Putting a contact in your block list will prevent you from receiving any future messages sent by anyone that you’ve placed in block list.
There may come a time when you need to urgently send someone a message and make sure that they’re received it. One way to do that is to periodically check if they’ve gone invisible in ICQ which seems impossible but in fact it is possible. There used to be a lot of tools that can check an ICQ user’s invisibility status but most of them are outdated and no longer being maintained. One of the method that I’ve personally tested working is by simply entering your contact’s ICQ UIN in a website and clicking a button will instantly reveal if the user is invisible or not.
1. Open your favorite web browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera or Internet Explorer.
2. Visit this hyperlink http://www.kanicq.ru/invisible/en/
3. Enter the ICQ UIN number that you want to check in the box and click the “Check it” button.
4. Within seconds, the page will automatically refresh and show the status of the ICQ UIN that you’ve entered.
If for some reason it didn’t work, you can try the other 2 methods to check for ICQ invisibility status which is “Non-stealth for all clients” and “Complicated but stealth for all clients” located at the left hand side of the page.
