Pardon me for not posting any articles on time today because I was waiting for this one as I wanted to be the first to tell you that the official Ad-Aware 2008 final version is here! Ad-Aware has always been one of my favorite spyware removal tool since version 1.06 and it has successfully helped me cleaned many spyware infested computer. It is currently second most popular and downloaded software in Download.com.

    • Ad-Aware 2007 is 20.1MB in size and Ad-Aware 2008 is 18.3MB. Even though there are new features, they manage to trim down the size and uses less system resources.

    For FREE version, many features would be unavailable. If you try to do a Custom Scan, Schedule a scan, enable Ad-Watch, start Process Watch and Hosts File Editor, you’ll get a message saying “You have to upgrade to either Plus or Pro version of Ad-Aware 2008 to use this feature“. Even though the FREE version doesn’t allow to schedule a scan from Ad-Aware, you can always use Scheduled Tasks in Windows to schedule automatic scanning at a specific time of the day using command line parameters.

    Ad-Aware 2008 looks pretty much the same as the previous version Ad-Aware 2007. My favorite version of Ad-Aware is definitely version 1.06. It is so light, does what it is supposed to and it is portable (can copy the whole folder to an external USB flash drive). However, since version 2007, it has already became bloatware. Launching the program takes up 45MB of memory. No matter what, Ad-Aware is always one of the top spyware removal programs. Download and try it yourself!

      I’m also a girl like aish20april and I don’t see anything unusual about a girl finding blogs like this interesting.

      I’ve been using the free edition of Ad-Aware for a few months now; but when my computer got raided by a trojan and spywares, Ad-Aware wasn’t able to detect all the threats that MBAM and SpyHunter did. This leaves me to wonder whether Ad-Aware is really as great as you all say it is. Nevertheless, I didn’t uninstall the program from my computer.

      hi,
      the first time i used adaware was in 2002 and it required 3 or 4 passes to completely remove adwares and other stuff from my desktop.
      ever since, i found the application powerful yet very light in using resources of my desktop. my OS then was win 98.
      now that im using winXP x64, i glad to know from you that adaware 2008 is finally released and that it works even with winXP x64. yahoo! even if i don’t get the pro key, just the freeware version is powerful enough for me.

      but then, nothing beats having the full capability of adaware running in my desktop.

      I really hope i get this because i have the free version which is good but it takes ages to check my computer and so i rarly get to check if i have any spyware. This is bad because i have a limit of 11mbs a day (set by my dad) and spyware takes a big chunk out of my limit.

      Your website is like a shining jewel in haystack. Was floored by its wide spectrum of content – all mighty useful and helpful.

      I am afraid I\’ve not tried AdAware, so honestly, I can\’t comment upon that. I have been using AVG AntiSpyware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spyware Blaster.

      But I\’m quite aware of the fact that AdAware (especially the PRO version with its real-time protection) is one of the best in the scene today.

      A big mistake is to think that the free version can not be scheduled to run a full scan. It can! Ad-aware has a command-line program that you cna use with Windows Scheduler.

      C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware>ad-awarecommand scan full

      C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware>ad-awarecommand /? – Will give you a list of options

      Just create a new schedule using the first command above, set the time and away you go!
