Google company moves very quickly. In just a short while, Chrome, the web browser by Google is now at version 5. I use Chrome and Firefox simultaneously because opening a lot of tabs in Firefox makes it sluggish but when I do that on Chrome, it is still fast because it is light. Google Chrome 5 is finally out of beta and every Chrome users should update to the latest version because it boast a 213 percent and 305 percent in Javascript performance by the V8 and SunSpider benchmarks since their very first beta.

I personally have a mentality that says a software should have some interface changes on major updates but Chrome maintains the same good old feel. Good thing about it is current users won’t need to struggle to learn on where are the menus and buttons, for example the annoyance of ribbon menu in Office 2007.

Some of the new features that you will find in the new Google Chrome 5 are:

1. Faster – Google loves speed!

2. Sync – Able to synchronize bookmarks, themes, homepage, startup settings, web content settings, preferred languages and zoom settings across multiple computers.

3. HTML5 – Geolocation APIs, App Cache, web sockets, and file drag-and-drop. You can now drag and drop attachments in Gmail right from your desktop.

4. Bookmark Manager – Facelift so that it run inside Chrome tab like the Extension and Downloads tab.

5. Extensions in Incognito – You can now enable each extension to work in incognito mode through the extensions manager.

6. Adobe Flash Player integration – Adobe Flash Player has not been included yet because the Chrome developer team are waiting for Adobe to release Flash Player 10.1, then only the integration will take place.

If you would like to update to the new Chrome 5, it should take place automatically but if not, click the Customize and Control Google Chrome button which is located at the end of the address bar and select About Google Chrome. It will then check for updates and prompts you to update if you are using an older version of Chrome. If you have not tried using Google Chrome, its time to do that and you can download the full version from the link below.

i been using it as well, you gotta love the bookmarks sync comes in handy to have the same bookmarks sync with your laptop, it can see more of the screen as well when you use chrome and it’s just faster, firefox used to be great but it just seems bloated and slow now.

I love Chrome… Hope it provides more thrid-party flexible apps like Mozilla. I really require Roboform and free-download manager integration.

I’m not a big fan of Google Chrome, it’s UI is not suited for those who have epic amount of tabs (my average of about 120 in Firefox) If you have a lot of tabs open in Google Chrome they get squished together rather than eventually being expanded into a menu you can just scroll across to get your tabs.

When I tried chrome for everyday browsing that problem really slowed down things, after about 10 tabs things get a little squished in there. That’s the only major complaint, there’s not much Google can do about extension support as it’s totally different from Firefox, which is probably a good thing.

Also people dislike Google’s Privacy policy but i dont’ really mind it much. A lot of people trust their information to sites that don’t even havea privacy policy

Chrome is still buggy right now.
I felt difficult to enter my hotmail with google chrome.
It keep asking me to ask default.aspx file instead of log me into hotmail inbox.

@brayden: Any average web surfers doesn’t have 120 tabs open at once. For hardcore browsers like you, should look for extensions to support your demands. I would never have more than 10 tabs open in one window. If I go any more than that, I will open a second window.

      Thanks Ray!

      Just updated my Chrome :D

    • VIJAY KULKARNI

Basically firefox was the best around a year or two.But now that google has developed chrome & chrome plus, its becoming more & more versatile. But the problem with google chrome is it doesnt install in C:\Program file\google.All it does it in my documents which google has to take it seriously.

But chrome is more faster than other browser. Also one dis-advantage is chrome crashes some times without a reason, which google is suspose to be working towards it.

    • VIJAY KULKARNI

@John – Goto IDM & then select “Download ->Option ->General” . Look for google chrome & check ” Use advance browser integration” .This solve the problem. Thanks you raymond

Goocle Chrome seems to tie the used language to the native language of the user’s IP, which is very annoying. Is this still the case in this new version and can you customize now the language of your preference? If not,is there a workaround to achieve that?

    • F3Speech

Supports “Windows XP, Vista and 7″

What about Win2K :/ Surley XP cant be all that different to 2k.

Lets develop a really light/fast browser and then stop it been downloadable on older PCs that would actually benifit the most.

Yes I know 2K is about to have its support dropped from MS but until then please fly the 2K flag :)

    • F3Speech

      Also @Garry “answer me ASAP”

how ti know the latest version of google crome..currently i am using google crome but i dont know what type yg version im currently use.

    • AniFran

It’s coming around very good and now that you can install “user scripts” from FF using Tampermonkey. You can customize your site loading even more.

I do hate how there is no good cookie & open, links, favs & search bar urls in a new tab. You can kind of get it to about how you want it with some extensions but nothing even close to good support like tab mix plus add to FF.

    • Makrand

If any one intrested here is the standalone/offline installer link :

    • Phil

I´m only wishing that Mozilla keeps Firefox tiny, that heavy functionality like WeaveSync remains optional and that speed maintains as a very important and priority development focus.

    • Logik

alrite they updated this link with the latest chrome…..its abt 17Mb in size

      Hi Ray and Paul.

I love your posts. I’ve been an old timer here. I’d like to mention some points regarding f’fox and Chrome.

I use both. I’ve noticed one thing. Chrome takes more memory than firefox. Even when I run a single tab, and compare that with a single tab of firefox (I am using the latest versions of both), chrome uses far more memory than Firefox.

Also there is an extension for Ramback ( Firefox: 3.0a8pre – 3.7a1pre) that causes firefox to free memory. but there is no such add-on for chrome. IMHO, Chrome is faster and hogs memory.

Can you disable Java in this piece of crap yet? SRSLY

    • http://www.ittech.cz.cc sunkumarspace

      opera is my favourite,

    • norman

thanks ray. it performs really faster than firefox.

    • http://nonplus.us nonplus

@sunkumarspace — Opera 10.53 automatically enables Java and doesn’t seem to allow one to disable it == total crap. Going back to 10.1 or 9.x is okay but they’ve lost my trust with this bogus update. I was just getting to like Opera, as well.

Currently use Firefox and/or IE8 with AdBlock+ (yes – works in IE8 too!)

It will be better if chrome has Adblockers too..
