I had this same problem on my brand new computer! It's so frustrating since the few days I've had the computer I've spent most of my time on it just trying to fix IE. I have tried EVERY fix out there and NOTHING worked. So what I finally did was do system restore to bring the computer back to brand new. Then Immediately cancel the windows updates. It was the windows updates that did it to my computer. Everything works fine now.

Unfortunately, reinstalling does not work on Windows 7!
Windows 7 does not keep Internet Explorer as a discrete program but only as a Windows feature. You can turn it off and turn it back on again, but it still gives the same errors. I have the same problem, but it is with Windows 7 and I have not found a fix yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi raymond, first thx for your blog.
you wrote : "..I can clear the cache/ cookies after logging out. I don’t want to do that on my Firefox 3 because..."

To avoid this problem I use "IE Privacy Keeper", it manages IE and Firefox, it's free, very light, etc.

That's right Dan S. I was so focused on finding what is the cause of the problem and fixing that particular area but forgotten to do a simple reinstallation.

I believe that the enviroment in which we work conditions us to be so focused on *fixing* that we often forget that it's okay to simply reinstall :)
