Yesterday I’ve shared with you all a trick on how to get free 1 year subscription for Norton Antivirus 2009 so you don’t need to resort to other illegal methods such as cracks or trial reset tool which could possibly make NIS 2009 unstable. The difference between Norton Antivirus 2009 and Norton Internet Security 2009 is the internet security is a complete security application for your computer which includes two-way firewall for intrusion prevention, parental controls and confidential information blocking, antispam, identify protection and much more. In short, the features are equivalence to Kaspersky Internet Security 2009.

So if Norton Internet Security 2009 is your preferred security application to help you keep your computer away from viruses and hackers, here is a trick on how to obtain a free Norton Internet Security 2009 subscription that is valid for more than a year or 460 days to be precise. Symantec claims that Norton Internet Security is a “PROVEN” fastest security suite available which I believe it is true. The scanning engine is so light that sometimes you won’t even feel that you have a full security suite installed and running on your computer. It is important that you run Norton LiveUpdate immediately after installation so that you’ll have the latest virus signature and also latest engine. Norton Internet Security 2009 also has a very smart memory management which is able to automatically reduce its memory usage from 30MB+ to 7MB+. I ran a full scan and Norton Internet Security 2009 took 1120 seconds to scan 75029 items which is slower than Norton Antivirus. Also, NIS by default automatically deletes any found threats including cracks and keygenerators but it can be restored from the Quarantine area.

Do take note that the OEM installer is different from trial because the trial license nags you to every time to buy a license whenever you launch the program from system tray. As for OEM installers, it actually gives you a full subscription period like the 1 year license except with a shorter subscription period.       Prashanth: Kaspersky is very good but I am not bias because Norton indeed has improved a lot.

      As for the rest of your questions, you can either manually uninstall NIS or just run the OEM installer which will detect the installed NIS and uninstall it for you.

      Raymond indeed NIS 2009 has lighter food prints . I was earlier a fan of Norton. But slugishness of Norton was all that required me to advice everyone I meet to get rid of it

      I think Norton is trying it’s best to make a good anti-virus software that works. I will still use Kaspersky on my main machine but try Norton on the other old PC I have. I still remember using Norton Internet Security 2005 way back when I bought a PC, it worked well and killed all the viruses. I only switched because back then it was bloated. Today Norton has seen the light, and it now makes a more respectable and reasonable use of resources.

      Try restarting your computer and run liveupdate again. If it still doesn’t work, I’d suggest you to download the offline update and manually install.

      I read from Norton forum that the Norton 2009 line of products have a lot of problem with liveupdate.

      I have been using the NIS2009 with trial reset for the last 4 months now. Its been working fine except for the nag screen showing trial will expire in 15 days.

      My q is should i uninstall that and reinstall these OEM?

      By the way NIS 2009 is leaner and meaner and one of the best norton products ever..was using kaspersky before this and am happy after the switch

      The only drawback with NIS2009 is that it deletes all the keygens and cracks as it detects them automatically and there is no way you can set it to ask you.

      well i installed oem version and whenevr i try to install naother it asy i need to uninstall the previous i do and then restart and then run the one i was trting to install after when i was restarted my pc it did not any of the days on so i dont know what is goign on here.. i did follow everythign you told me too and i could not find out whats wrong and soemoen did say that a restart message was not asked for them they kept on installing each oem version of norton after another without uninstalling or restarting… so please help.. and please do nto ignore this message.

      comme erreur sur la page d’accueil de norton vunlérable et en bas en rouge c’est marquer corriger .

      seulement voilà après avoir appuyer sur corriger rien est fait et le problème persiste .

      When uninstalling norton in vista I follow the steps below:

      1. Run the norton removal tool – Restart
      2. Do advanced search (hidden files/folders) for Norton and Symantec. Delete all files except of course something you downloaded for further install.
      3. Type %temp% in the start box and highlight & delete all temp files. You may not be able to delete one or two files which is fine.
      4. Type prefetch in the start box and delete all files. You may not be able to delete all files but its fine.
      5. Empty recycle bin
      Restart and you should have removed all the norton files.

      Hi Raymond. 1.purchased HP notebook 23 Oct,09-60 day Norton Internet Security. 2. uninstalled 21 Dec,09. 3. attempted to instal Norton antivirus 20(which we have installed on our home pc, our cottage pc & a toshiba laptop. 4. installation not successful-they state it is only good for one computer, notwithstanding they allowed installation on 3 computers, same key. 5. would appreciate your assistance with regard to installing NIS 2009 with the 400 days plus.
