i got the same problem after trying to boot from ghost copy, i guess there is no solution but changing your HD don’t bother yourself…. thnx all

i have the same issue, but no solution work fine with me, i knew that from the beginning but i was trying to fix this issue with out buying a new H.D.D

the main cause its was sound coming out from the H.D.D :)

I have the same error. I tried chkdsk and nothing. I\’m thinking to on an external hard disk to my pc and install there windows XP from the cd. And when pc restart see if he continues to recognize the HD principal. Do you think that with this actions i can backup the files in the hd of the pc to the external HD?

DAMN IT i hate this stupid error message, i have it too, is there a way to fix it yourself in a fast way that wont make u lose every thing??????? i need help, im sick of having to use my parens laptop instead of my PC, HOW DO U FIX THIS ERROR MESSAGE??

I\\\\\\\’m having the same problem on my laptop. Booted into FreeBSD, did a \\\\\\\”dd if=/dev/ad0 of=/dev/null\\\\\\\” to scan the entire hard drive, dd reported no read errors. This is a bogus error message, but I haven\\\\\\\’t a clue as to where it\\\\\\\’s coming from. I thought that maybe it was a bad HD controller, but when I pulled the drive and put it in a USB enclosure, it gives me teh same error.

I\\\\\\\’m thinking that maybe the boot sector is screwed up or something – it starts to boot, the bootstrap loader tells it to jump to another area of the hard drive that doesn\\\\\\\’t exist, and so it returns an error. Boot block isn\\\\\\\’t smart enough to figure it out, so it just throws a \\\\\\\”disk read error\\\\\\\” and quits.
