A while back, I provided my list of add-ons that I feel Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome should have by default installed on their browsers, and was asked why I included Greasemonkey, or rather, what scripts would I recommend. I’ve been using Greasemonkey for nearly as long as I’ve used Mozilla Firefox, being the second add-on I tried, and is always one of those first add-ons I install on a fresh copy of Mozilla Firefox. Google Chrome and it’s derivatives, such as SRWare Iron (the derivative I use) or Maple Studio’s ChromePlus, can all take advantage of the following scripts without the use of Greasemonkey, however, I can not ensure reliability since Chrome/Iron is not my primary browser. However, all the provided ones I’ve personally tried and recommend to anyone who considers themselves in need of said tools.

Youtube Video Downloader

I don’t understand why someone would want to use a secondary website when you can simply use a Greasemonkey script to download the videos off Youtube. I’ve personally used this to download some clips I found rather funny and entertaining, such as the above video by ‘Bomb The Music Industry’ [linked here, rock music], or the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy spoof that referred to the Daleks. This script saves you a lot of time and a lot of searching for the new site that works to download when Youtube updates itself.

Cavern Links Checker

The Cavern Links Checker tool does the hard work for you: it checks to see if the file is uploaded onto a said file serving site or not, like Mediafire, Rapidshare, MegaUpload, etc, and will save you a lot of time if you’re downloading a multi-part ISO for Linux if one part is dead. It updates automatically from time to time, and will once in a while slow your browsing down if you navigate on sites that provide a lot of download links. If you are one that uses this add-on a lot, I won’t ask why, though for your sake, I hope it’s legal.

Minimalist Facebook

Those who know me, also know one other thing about me. I enjoy minimalist themes because it allows for me to do so much more in the now empty space. Mimimalist Facebook takes the crowded default interface and throws it out the window, and leaves a nice clean looking Facebook for those of us who hate those advertisements, the constant nagging of “add this random person” and the other random invites people do. I got fed up with it after a while… so I decided to use this to do something about all of it! Now if only it installed some common sense to boot. Another option if you’re looking for something like this, but needs cursing in the title to explain how you feel, is Unf*** Facebook. However, I think it would be easier to explain to your boss if the script you chose had no swearing in it…

And I could go on for a while on other scripts that could make your life easier or more interesting. But I can assure you, these are the tips of the icebergs and you can easily find more scripts on userscripts.org. I’ve never seen a site yet that has yet to be supported, aside from our own Raymond.cc… but I will applaud anyone who finds a need for a Greasemonkey script for our site.

And remember, ladies and gents: tomorrow night is the last you can enter to win one of five, one year licenses of IP Hider! If you haven’t applied yet, make sure to do so: all you have to do is leave a comment and you’re in!
