Would you like to run BitTorrent and download files from your work place or college? Bad news is most of big companies and schools has firewall or proxy where the administrator can restrict you from doing everything on the internet except checking your email and maybe browsing the internet. You can’t chat, you can’t listen to online music, you can’t download your favourite TV series you missed last night on torrent or P2P, playing online games…. NOTHING!
Here is a freeware that can help you do all that even if you have firewall or proxy restrictions. Be careful if you’re chatting or playing games during work because you might loose your job for doing that. That’s why it’s being blocked in the first place. This guide is only for your knowledge and use it at your own risk. I won’t hold responsible for anything that may happen to you. Continue reading if you’re interested to know how to bypass firewall and proxy restrictions… You can even avoid being monitored by the administrators on sites that you visit and etc…
HTTP-Tunnel acts as a socks server, allowing you to use your Internet applications safely despite restrictive firewalls and/or you not be monitored at work, school, government and gives you a extra layer of protection against hackers, spyware, ID theft’s with HTTP-Tunnel’s encryption.

Your Internet application sends data to the HTTP-Tunnel Client, which in turn tunnels the data over HTTP (port 80) to the HTTP-Tunnel servers. The servers then send the data to the intended destination and forward the responses back to the HTTP-Tunnel client. This forwarding technique effectively bypasses firewalls, (and/or for users whom want a secure, monitor free usage), permitting the user to successfully use their favorite application.

HTTP-Tunnel runs on a variety of Windows operating systems (Windows 98, ME, NT 4.X, 2000 and XP). Unfortunately, there are currently no releases available for Unix or Macintosh platforms. The best part is the filesize for this freeware is only 174KB in size!
There are 2 versions of HTTP-Tunnel. The free version and paid version. The difference between the two version is you will be getting high speed option for power users, no bandwidth limitation. Two two options are ideal for users behind a high speed internet connection (Cable/DSL modem, T1, etc.) and good for applications which are transfer-intensive (peer-to-peer programs, FTP, etc.) If you’re using it for chatting, or you don’t mind the slow download speed in BitTorrent, then the free version of HTTP-Tunnel would be more suitable for you.
HTTP-Tunnel won’t work right out of the box. Meaning there will be some configurations needed in order to work.
Please refer to the User Guides provided by HTTP-Tunnel on configuring the application that you’d like to tunnel.

Hey Raymond,
I am trying to have a few of my friends that are under heavy firewall try to play this game: Settlers ( solito.free.fr/catane/game.php?id=2&type=full )
However, their firewall blocks port 4002. I tried to setup a squid proxy however, it still doesn’t work for them. They go to like showmyip.com and it still shows them their own ip even through their proxy is set to use my squid proxy server any thoughts?
Cheers,
Nathan

[...] Another way is to use VPN. I’ve not tested it because I never had the chance to get a free account. It’s always full due to too much traffic shaping going on. I’ve written an article about bypassing most firewall and proxy restriction using HTTP-Tunnel which might also work for traffic shaping problem. If you’re going to pay for the VPN service, do try out first before paying as it might not work for you. Here are the few VPN sites. 1. XLCORE VPN 2. Relakks 3. SecureIX [...]
could you pls send the program to my email? thank you
well freeware is slow (1-3 KB) and sometimes hangs
but paid is (price is rather low – few bucks per month) is ok
thanks for the great tip. I never knew such a software exists. Using Port 80 is a good idea since that port is always opened…
