How To Clear Your Google Search History from Browser and Toolbar

One of the main reason why some people would like to clear their Google search history from web browser and Google Toolbar is to maintain their privacy. If you own your own desktop or laptop which is used only by you, then it’s fine. But if your computer is shared with a few people, sometimes it’s just not nice to let them “accidentally” find out what you were looking for. An example below would be embarrassing.
Clear Google Search History

Here’s how you can clear Google’s search history from Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Toolbar for Firefox and Internet Explorer.


The below instruction A and B is for deleting search history from the Google home page search box. This is if you use either Firefox or Internet Explorer and manually type in Google.com address to perform the search.

A. Internet Explorer 7
1. Go to Tools menu
2. Select Options
3. On General tab, click on the “Delete…” button from the Browsing History area.
4. Click “Delete forms…” button from the Form data area.

5. Click Yes to confirm.

B. In Mozilla Firefox
1. Go to Tools menu
2. Select Options
3. Select the “Privacy” tab
4. On the Private Data area, click on the “Clear Now…” button.
5. Make sure the “Saved Form and Search History” is checked and click on the Clear Private Data Now.

The below instruction C and D is if you have Google Toolbar installed on your Firefox or Internet Explorer browser.

C. Internet Explorer with Google Toolbar
1. Click on the Google logo on the Toolbar to access the drop-down menu.
2. Select the “Clear History” option.

1. Click on the Google logo on the Toolbar.
2. Select “Clear Search History” option.

As you can see, clearing search history from Google Toolbar on Internet Explorer and Firefox is slightly a bit different. Not sure why they made it that way… Although it seems easy to clear Google search history, I did not immediately knew where to clear Google search history in Firefox Google Toolbar. I was searching through the options and the drop-down but I missed clicking the Google logo where the “Clear Search History” option is.

      On google you can also hover your mouse over the item/s you want to delete and press the Delete key, hold it down to delete more faster

      Well my friend Raymond,
      google has their cookies minding our browser, so if any1 want to know your search history, then they can know it by contacting google and google also has records of searches by their cookie by paying a little amount. If you wont believe, then contact google and see.

      I have been tracking the behavior of this cookie, so i know how they do it. If you dont believe now also then try tracking the behaviour of the cookie and you will find the result.

      UmAR, clearing internet explorer history is shown clearly above. How did you miss it?

      CLEARING DROP-DOWN HISTORY FROM GOOGLE TOOLBAR ON FIREFOX FOR MAC:

      it’s really simple, click the google logo on the upper right-hand of your brower. click manage search engine. now, unclick “show search suggestions.” no more dirty search items!

      also, you may want to click FIREFOX >PREFERENCES > SECURITY > CLEAR NOW.

      and don’t forget to clear the history from your browser!

      **Firefox and Google. **
      It’s real easy to delete the “Autofill” in the search bar.
      Just go into Tools > Options > Privacy.
      Uncheck “Remember what I enter in forms and the search bar” and click OK.
      Close Firefox the open it again and TADA! Done.

      “Saved Form and Search History” is not highlighted on the “Clear Private Data” page (Firefox). Therefore, it does not allow me to delete “Suggestions” from the Google box. I also tried hovering my mouse over the selected words and deleting, but they reappeared. None of the above suggestions have worked so far.

      Si tienes activada la barra de google, verás que en la parte que anotas tu búsqueda aparece una \”G\” y tiene un flechita, da clik y ubicate en \”administrar…\”y luego ve a la pestaña de \”funciones\” y luego vete a \”configuracion del cuadro de búsqueda\” y desactiva donde dice \”Sugerir búsquedas en función de mi historial de búsqueda\” y tan tan

      i hv a problem…that…whenevr…i clear d history…from internet explorer….i get clear…in d address bar.But when i click on d history tab…a vertical coloumn appears on d left hand side of the screen…and it views my history.Then i have to right click on evry individual viewed history..and delete it.It takes a lot of time..nd this thing really irritates me.

      Hello-
      I think that this will solve the problem for people that are trying to clear search history in safari using apple computers.
      When you have safari open:
      Click on Safari on the top left corner of your desktop next to the apple.
      On the drop down menu choose: Preferences
      Then choose : Autofill
      Make sure “other forms” is checked and then click on “edit” to the right of it.
      Click on “remove all”, and then click on “done”.
      This should clear your search history.

      Open a new Internet Explorer window.
      Click the Tools menu.
      Select Internet Options.
      On the General tab, click the Clear History button.
      On the Content tab, click the AutoComplete button.
      Click the Clear Forms button.
      Click the OK button.

      I went to preferences and went autofill, then other forms, edit then delete, but my tool bar still remembers everything. please get back to me.

      This is the real fix for you who use Windows XP
      1. close your browser
      2. open My Computer
      3. open “C:” drive
      4. open “Documents and Settings”
      5. open your username
      6. click on “tools”
      7. click on “Folder options
      8. click on “view” tab
      9. click on “Show hidden files and folders”
      10. click on “OK”
      11. click on “Application Data
      12. click on “Mozilla”
      13. click on “Firefox”
      14. click on “Profiles”
      15. there will be a file/folder like: xq7ck2hu.default
      16. open it the file/folder
      17. look for a file called: places.sqlite
      18. right mouse click on it and select delete. IF you feel uncertain, move it to your desktop or known location and then open your browser and see if that resolved your problem.

      Done!

      This is a way to just remove the list from your toolbar, but will not remove in future if you set it to list again. Items will still be there.

      Type: About:config in the Navigation Bar
      Click: I’ll be careful I promise when the warning prompts you from Firefox
      Scroll down to: browser.urlbar.maxRichResults
      Double Click and Change Default from 12 to 0
