Pirated movie release types such as BDRip, DVDRip, TC, R5, Screener, TS and CAM allows downloaders to easily identify what type of quality you would be expecting. For example, if you download a CAM release, you are going to expect a really bad quality because it is a copy made in a cinema using a camcorder, possibly mounted on a tripod and the sound source is the camera microphone. Even though there is supposed to be a standard where the movie rippers should follow, there are some that doesn’t care and release a bad quality movie with a DVDRip title to the filename.
Downloaders will surely be pissed because they have spent hours downloading the so called DVDRip but gotten a lousy quality instead. One way to make sure that it doesn’t happen to you is by manually previewing the videos without finishing the download. All you need is a Firefox web browser, 7-Zip file archiver and a media player that can play incomplete or corrupted videos such as VLC.
It’s actually pretty straight forward as long as you have the correct software that I mentioned above. Normally a full movie would consist of a few parts because of the file hosting size limitation. You MUST download the first part because if you start with the later parts, the media player cannot decide what codec to use to play the video file.

Allow the download of the first part to reach at least 5MB and then click the Pause icon at the Firefox download manager to pause the download. Go to the location where the file is saved (by default it is in a folder called Download in My Documents), right click on the .part file, go to 7-Zip and select Extract Here.

If the video file is passworded, enter the password which is usually found on the site where you got the links from. Ignore the CRC failed in encrypted file wrong password error in 7-Zip. Click the Close button.
Simply play the extracted AVI file with VLC media player, GOM player or KMPlayer and you get a short preview of the video that you wanted to download. Do not use Windows Media Player because it does not support playing incomplete video file and gives you the error popup saying “Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file.”
The above tip is more suitable for advanced users that doesn’t like to install unnecessary software on their computer. The reason why I’ve chosen Firefox, VLC and 7-Zip is because all 3 of them have portable versions which can be downloaded on PortableApps.com and I can run it without installing it on my computer. This method also works on any other file hosting websites. There are automated ways of previewing videos using third party software which I will share with you tomorrow.

I knew about the third party soft but I was wondering how to do it without installing stuff. Thanks :D
nice tip here, thanks for that
yes, Raymond.I realised that I have Vista codec pack installed.so, it’s the contribution of the codec pack.
@ Henry
Hello Raymond, What movie maker software would you recommend for building excellent Chistian programs TV? Eg TV adverts, announcements, Streaming videos etc?
I am not Raymond, but I might be able to help here.
… The religion doesn’t matter. What matters is what kind of effects your going to try to do.
If it’s 3D your going to have to work with something like 3D studio Max, Particle Illusion, Cinema 4D, Vue, Daz / Poser and be able to output that “3D work flow” to a compositor/editor like…
sony vegas pro, adobe premeire, adobe after effects on a windows platform. If your mac, I’d go with iMovie or Final Cut Pro. Linux – has a few tools for doing video, but it’s easier to edit video on a different platform. In my opinion Linux’s viddeo editing isn’t quite up to snuff.
Full Disclosure: I have used each of these platforms, and OS’s and I won’t get into a win vs linux vs mac game, you should use what works without problems. Period. I have done music videos for both Christian bands and the southern most opposite of the spectrum as well hard core metal and many in between who just don’t care about religion, but want to get a video made in a reasonable amount of time.
@pyrex666
Check that you downloaded the whole video. Maybe it’s incomplete.
This Tip works with Limewire as well…..
With limewire its much easier as the quality of the video will already be determined.
Just search and download a video 1/15 the way through and click on preview…..YOU WILL NEED
VLC media Player to do so.Any other media player would not play a half downloaded file
thanks Ray!!! another sounding tip!!! more power Ray!!!
Thanks Raymond
Just to say: welcome back Raymond!
HellNoire is a great and helpful person and writes excelletn reviews, nevertheless we all miss you.

Download and install Windows 7 Codecs pack by SHARK007 (works in any Windows including XP). You will then be able to play any video format on any player.
Unfortunately, this won’t work if its double-packed. Many take the original scene release, RAR the RARs again, then upload it again.
Nice and useful post.
Hi, sorry,
thanks Mohsen !!!
Hi Ray,
on your replay to “Soon” I would like to ask if you are not using any codes, I thought of k-lite was in your PC, and what do you think of what Mohsen posted ???
Thanks Raymond.
@pyrex666, sounds like a DRM locked one… or a corrupted one.
@lemans and mohsen: These work too, but I believe Raymond recommended these tools/work arounds because they have portable versions.
Great Tip . thks
I have to point out that posts like this that encourage or facilitate piracy are why this site got in trouble with google.
I would encourage you not to do this kind of thing.
Hey, nice to knw ur back.. nice post!

Thanks Raymond for such a wonderful Tip !
HAHA!!
I’ve been doin this for months after i was been tricked by a guy who uploaded an old movie with a new title….
Good information raymond.I used to do this as I was very curious about the quality of movie. Thanks
mmm…interesting, thanks
Gr8, i already use this in almost all my blind downloading and was in thought before this article that everyone is smart enough to use this method.
hi again , i forgot to mention ilivid player, which can play video from hosted video links, while they are downloading and even supports password protected archived files.
enjoy!
ilivid.com/
or you can use rarplayer:
tucows.com/preview/503549
hi, thanks for the tip, also if you don’t like to wait for the zip file to be downloaded, you should have a powerful compressor ,capable of handling corrupted archives,
after trying a few tests on half downloaded zip files, i found 7zip,winrar,winzip weak in opening or extracting zip archives.but alzip and securezip both were able to extract all files in the archives, even the one which was incomplete , in my test it was a picture, but the above part of the picture which was downloaded, extracted fine and i was able to view it.
i have a question, what do i need if i downloaded a video which is .avi type and when i play the video it plays a universal studio intro and there is a message below that says codec error: use windows media player but it cant be played in media player. even in total video player and vlc player. CAN ANYONE ANSWER ME….
tanx raymond! yeah im one of those person whom really piss off after downloading a fake dvdrip.
Nice tip Raymond. Might add your link to my blog.

@soon: I am getting the error “Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file” in Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit . Probably you have codec pack installed on your computer?
I tried to play incomplete broken video with windows media player under windows 7 and it’s playable-is this the improvement made to windows media player 12?
Great tip! I hope you don’t get in trouble again with Google ;)
Welcome back Raymond!!
