Movie freaks who loves to download movies from Internet definitely has encountered problems in viewing the AVI after spending hours downloading. Very frustrating! Instead of spending more time looking for another difference source to redownload the movie again, why not consider fixing the AVI file?
I’m sure you’ve heard of DivFix written by Budai Csaba from Hungary. However, the project has been on hold for many years now. The latest version of DivFix is version 1.10 dated 13/05/2003. From year 2003 to 2007, surely there has been many improvement and enhancement to the AVI file. So there is a possibility that DivFix might not be able to repair newer AVI files.

Thank God there is another similar program that is able to repair AVI files called DivFix++. The name is very similar to the old DivFix but it’s not from the same author.
DivFix++ is complete rewrite of “DivFix” program due it’s bugs and low performance. This program designed to repair broken AVI file streams by rebuilding index part of file. This is very useful when trying to preview movies which has no index part, like some files are currently downloading from ed2k or bittorent networks. DivFix++ has supports CLI tools, this means you can fix a file to temporary location, preview with a player, than delete temporary movie file after preview automatically via script by using argument parameters. There are Windows, Linux and Mac versions for you to download.

DivFix++ is very easy to use. The interface window has Drag’n'Drop support. You can drag and drop your AVI files to “Source/Input File List window” program instead of “Add File(s)” button. After file addition to the Source File List window, you need to add your output path. Next, just press Rebuild Index and fix your avi. That’s all. Strip Index button removes “index” part from file(s). This makes your AVI file became “unsearchable” by most of avi players. Check Errors button is to scan files for any error and report it from log window.
DivFix++ latest version last released on March 31, 2007. Starting from April, 1st, the author of DivFix++ will be joining the Military Service. We’ll not be expecting any updates on DivFix++ for the next few months.
I personally had experienced playing bad AVI files. I tried many video fixing programs, even very famous sharewares, but it still cannot play after fixing. Later I found a manual way which I’ve successfully fixed the AVI file, but it requires to use few softwares and going through confusing steps. I will post that later. In the meantime, DivFix++ does the job most of the time.
