Inspect your WindowsFor a computer technician or engineer, it’s important to always bring along softwares that is able to inspect Windows. It can be very helpful in identifying your customer’s computer because there are a lot of people who buy computer and use it but they never make an effort to remember their own computer specifications. Here’s a free tool that is able to inspect Windows.

The Windows Inspection Tool Set (WiTS) provides you with cross-linked, filtered views into a Windows system. View operating system information, processes, services, users, network interfaces and connections, file shares, printers and more. All views are linked allowing for easy navigation between related objects.

WiTs currently support object types:
* Operating system and hardware
* Processes
* Services
* Drives and volumes
* Users and groups
* Logon sessions
* Local and remote shares
* Network interfaces and connections
* Printers
* Handles

WiTS is an open source application. It’s free to use and you can use it on commercial environment as well. WiTS supports Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003.

I personally like free tools that I can bring it on my USB thumb drive. If you download WiTS, it’s in .MSI extension. Meaning you’ll have to install it. Once installed, you’ll find WiTS in “C:\Program Files\Windows Inspection Tool Set\1.0\wits.exe”. I found out that you can copy wits.exe from the program folder to your USB thumb drive and directly run it from there. It’s a very useful tool. Try it!
