  gt use Avira Antivir 8 Free its has the best engine, light on the system and fast at scanning. much better than AVG.

  IMHO AVG 8.0 is too slow compared to AVG 7.5, expecially on single core CPUs.

  With my dual core Athlon BE-2350 it slows down the windows experience when I explore folders with a lot of big executable files (i.e. the folder in which I store the installation files of my favourite programs)

  I’m looking for a new antivirus… It should be freeware and should scan for incoming e-mails.

  Isn’t the large file size due to the inclusion of the antispyware databases? Over on Wilders they say this is running smoothly.

  @ali: Bloatware is software that has a lot of features — which forces the program to have a bigger file size and eats up more memory.

  Totally agree with you Jcym. Many useful software has became bloatware after a major update.

  I like AVG and have used it for years but 8 looks as if it has turned into major bloatware if the install is that big. I thought it bad enough when the 7.5 setup turned in at 27MB, but 46MB is ridiculous. Unfortunately, I know that eventually they will force 8 on all 7.5 users by stopping updates for 7.5. When that happens I can see I am going to have to look for another AV suite as all I want an AV suite to do is, well, AV with as small a footprint as possible. The other tasks I prefer to use the tools I presently use as I have yet to find a combined suite that is anywhere near as good as individual applications.

  Anyway, thanks for the heads-up, time to start looking for a new AV.

  Thanks Raymond, But will we be getting regular updates via the antivirus updater or something of that sort or will we have to download it our selves. i asked this because i saw a couple of updates on the site.
