I visited Windows Update and there was no new Windows Genuine Advantage to install. However, I’ve got some comments saying that there’s a new version 1.5.722 is out. Microsoft usually rolls out the latest Windows Genuine Advantage to only certain regions and not all at the same time. These days companies are given more power to monitor emails and to examine your personal files. However, I never like to use that CD to reinstall my operating system because Service Pack 2 and other updates is not integrated. What I do is, I always look out for an ISO image that ETH0 release. The ISO image contains Windows XP Professional + Service Pack 2 + Latest Windows Updates integrated. It has serial number in it’s .NFO but I never use that key. Why use a pirated product key when I have a genuine one? All I need to do is install using ETH0 Windows XP CD, input my genuine product key and my Windows XP is up to date once complete installing! What a time-saver!

If you’ve installed the latest version of FlashGet v1.8 Beta 1, you’ll notice that it can support download torrent files which is great news to all torrent downloaders! However, because it’s still in Beta, I wouldn’t want to download torrent files using FlashGet. I prefer to use the smallest torrent client which is µTorrent. Problem is, when I installed FlasGet 1.8 Beta 1, it overwrites the default file opener or handler association for .torrent files with FlashGet. I checked the options on FlashGet and found a box where I can uncheck to disassociate FlashGet with .torrent file. After unchecking the box, weirdly FlashGet will again overwrite the default .torrent file association to FlashGet even though I’ve disabled it.

One of my old friend contacted me today and asked me to help him out with his computer virus problems. I checked his computer and he has Symantec Antivirus client installed but there were no Symantec Antivirus server at home. If the server is not around, the client wouldn’t get virus definitions update at all and it’s meaningless to have an outdated antivirus running at background. So I thought of uninstalling the Symantec Antivirus client.

I went to Control Panel and ran Add or Remove Programs. Found Symantec Antivirus Client and I clicked on the Remove button. The progress bar ran for a while and a dialog box pop out asking for password to continue the uninstallation.

I asked my friend and he didn’t know anything about it! I couldn’t install any other type of antivirus IF i do not remove the Symantec Antivirus client first. Searched around and found the default password to uninstall Symantec Antivirus client and also a way to bypass the password.
