Here’s a scenario. You’re not a professional in web designing. So you download free web templates that can be readily used. That save you the trouble from designing website right from the beginning. Most of the time we want to tweak and customize the template by changing some colors on it. Problem is, we have to identify the color that’s being used and the only way you can do it is by looking for it in the HTML code or CSS.

Now you can save all that trouble by simply picking a color on the page under your mouse and transforms it into a number of different color formats.

The first color picker software which I’m going to introduce is ColorPix.
Pick color on screen
It’s a very small and simple freeware which does the job. No installation needed. Colorpix gives you Pixel, RGB, Hex, HSB, CMYK format. If the color that you want to pick is way to small, you can use the magnify feature to zoom up to 2800%! Once the color you want is displayed on Colorpix, simply press any key to lock from recognizing other colors. To unlock, press any key again on Colorpix.

Next color picking software I am going to introduce is ColorPic.
Recognize color on screen
This is a more advanced color picker compared to ColorPix. It is able to do everything that ColorPix can but it has palettes where you can capture more than 1 color for easy reference. To grab the color on the screen, press CTRL+G simultaneously. Pressing CTRL+G again on the selected grabbed color will release the color from the palette.

Please do not be confused with the name because both is program name is very similar. ColorPix and ColorPic. I’ve tested grabbing a few colors and both produced the same results. I personally would prefer to use ColorPix because I only require the program to magnify, grab and recognize the color formats. By the way, both ColorPix and ColorPic is FREEWARE. I wonder why there are color picker SHAREWARE that requires you to purchase when there are such great freeware?
