The title of this article explains it all! DataRecovery is freeware and written by TOKIWA(a japanese) to undelete accidentally deleted files even from recycle bin. This might not be the BEST data recovery software but it’s one of the few that works on Windows Vista and it’s FREE. Only 3 steps is required to recover deleted files from Windows.


1. Click on the drive that you want to scan for deleted files
2. Click on Scan Files button and wait…
3. You can wipe the file completely to prevent from recovery by using the Wipe button OR you can recover the deleted file by clicking the Recovery button.

Features of DataRecovery:
* FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS undeletion
* undelete NTFS compressed files
* undelete EFS encrypted files
* wipe out deleted files never to be recovered again
* Able to run from floppy disk
* search by partial string in the file name
* undelete whole files in a directory
* undelete multiple files by selecting them with Shift/Ctrl key
* sort items displayed by clicking column headers
* neither installation nor DLLs is needed
* Windows Vista supported (The wipe function won’t work on Windows Vista due to Windows Vista built-in file protection)

What I like about this Data Recovery freeware is it’s an ongoing project. A lot of freewares gone outdated because the author doesn’t bother to update them since they are not making money out of it or they’re busy with their personal life or other projects. So an ongoing project is a good sign since the author will constantly fix bugs and implement new features to make it better.

Important Note: Always install the data recovery program on another hard drive or USB flash drive and also when you’ve selected the file to recover, make sure you DON’T save it on the same drive because there is a chance that it’ll overwrite it before you can completely recover the file.

      I was really excited to find this software and followed all the instructions, but was disappointed to learn after I scanned my computer, that I couldnt “recover” the deleted files unless I actually payed for the program and got the authenticity code. So, it’s NOT FREE.

      I have download it\’s free. You have to download the first one. It says Download DataRecovery 2.3.1.2. The second one takes to another website where you have to pay.

      I am currently working on a ERP system written in PHP, so I had this very important .PHP file that I accidentally removed while stonned.

      I was freeing some space on my laptop and I accidently deleted my most important folder!! My music projects,art projects,my life was in this folder! I thought it was gone!!

      this is weird. out of only 50 items (videos) that I wanted to recover, only 20 got recovered. what happened to the other 30??

      Um. This isn\’t really working. I clicked on my hard drive and it\’s…nothing is appearing. None of my folders and files are up for um, recovery.

      Any suggestions? I\’m looking for a document that was VERY important, for various reasons, and I MUST recovery it, with a free recovery program.

      I have a HP laptop with Vista Preloaded with 160GB hard drive and have only one partion that is C and recovery Drive, Currenty C drive shows as 140GB I want to Keep C drive has 60GB and rest space to be used as 80GB in 3 partions How can I make if any utility pls send me.

      Over 4 years of digital photos were missing from my Pictures folder – and from my backups. I am running this utility right now, and so far it has found over 6,300 of the images that I lost.

      i have a deleted folder with some sub folders and some files inside any of them. I select my folder in deleted list to recover.
      i tried your software and it just restored a small portion of deleted folder. I tried to scan again and it doesn’t bring
      my deleted folder in deleted list. My data is very important for me. Can i try other recovery program?
      i want to be sure that your software hasn’t destroyed unrecovered data.

      free? after downloading and searching my drive for 30 minutes, then selecting recover, it told me I had to pay. Don’t advertise free if it’s not!

      I just downloaded this program and so far so good, but when I recover a file, say picture, there is no program which can actually open that said picture. They just say invalid photo file or file not supported and yet it’s just a .jpg … what should I do ? :(

      There is a free data recovery software (EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard 4.8 Beta), it can recover deleted files or lost files even if you emptied files from Recycle Bin, formatted the partition even if you have reinstalled Windows, the partition is lost or deleted, the file system of partition became RAW, partition cannot be accessed, hard drive is crashed, hard drive is repartitioned, etc. I have tried it and it works well, it ends at Feb 2010, download it quickly from http://majorgeeks.com/EASEUS_Data_Recovery_Wizard_d6336.html

      Thank you a lot for the programm. My gf has made me a frozen desktop joke, making a phto of my screen and putting it as the desktop backround – all desktop icons she’s hided in one folder so that I couldn’t acces them :XD, after I was pranked and she laught we wanted to copy the icons from the folder back onto the desktop but smth happend and unfortunetly my most important folder didn’t copy properly and I have dilited it completely from my computer…….and this prgramm saved my life, I appreciate it, keep cool !

      Please help!
      I have accidenly deleted some photos of me and my friend who passed away. I can recover the photos but i can’t open them as photo gallery says the file may be damaged or corrupted? what can i do now?

      This program does the job, but I have to say in the worst possible manner. It does not understand long filenames, crashes after recovering approx. 100 files or so (every time), has hiccups, and the renaming function does not work. I lost over 5500 mp3 files and I’m in the (SLOW) process of recovering them, 100-150 at a time. This is painstakingly bad programming, but hey, I shall not all but complain. I’m getting it all back.
