Here’s a quick tip on how to remove Nero Scout from Nero 7.

Click on Start and select Run.
Remove Nero Scout from Nero 7
Copy the code/line below and paste it to the Run box and hit OK.
regsvr32 /u “%COMMONPROGRAMFILES%\Ahead\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll”

Enjoy ;)

Update: 7 February 2006
The latest Nero 7.0.5.4 has the option to Disable Nero Scout and also includes an option to “Show Nero Scout in Windows Explorer”.
Go to your Windows Explorer, right click on the Nero Scout icon and select Options.
Just uncheck both of the options at the picture below and you won’t get the Nero Scout icon on your Windows Explorer.
Nero Scout

Download the latest version of Nero to have this option.

In Nero 8, you can click on My computer and right click Nero Scout and then uncheck the box ” enable Nero Scout”. OR you can call Nero scout from the the Start, All Programs, Nero 8, Nero Toolkit, Nero Scout and uncheck the box for “enable Nero Scout”.

In nero 7, disabling Nero Scout … apparently it is still there quietly taking up space and working in the background… I just want it GONE. I\’m not computer-literate in the first place, but literate enough to know that I don\’t like or want fluff… and I want it OFF my computer ! I have 7 Ultra and have been fighting with the disc for the last 2 years. Nero states, throw out the disc and download straight from our web and that scares me even more… SCOUT is too invasive HELP. How could I just get 5.5??????

here is an additional information about Nero:

One of the other things that isn’t mentioned is Nero’s indexing service (available since Nero 6) that basically just ends up being a waste of resource usage (RAM).

To disable you’ll need administrator privileges.

Simply go to the Run command or run CMD.exe (cmd.exe is located in the System32 directory), now type in msconfig and press enter.

Once System Configuration window is open, left click on the Services tab and then left click the Hide all Microsoft Services checkbox.

Next look for an entry listed as NMindexingservice and left click it’s checkbox, once that is done left click apply.

Once you have done this, left click on OK and then Windows will prompt you that it needs to restart so do so, once the system has been restarted, Nero’s indexing service will no longer be running.
