Replacement for Torrent Harvester, The Multiple Torrent Searcher

Torrent Harvester project has been dead for quite a while. The official website is no longer accessible and the engines update doesn’t work as well. When the BitTorrent tracker websites made any changes, Torrent Harvester wouldn’t be able to search for torrents on that website unless you fix the XML engine file. It shouldn’t be too tough because you can edit it with Notepad and it’s fairly easy to understand the code even if you don’t know programming.
But who would want to go through all the trouble to maintain and update 173 engines? Not many people I guess. So here’s an alternative for Torrent Harvester where you can easily search for torrents on multiple bittorrent tracker websites.
Bit Che is pronounced ‘bit chay’ and is named after the Argentinean word ‘Che’ which roughly translates to ‘Friend’.

Bit Che is a simple tool that quickly searches popular bit torrent sites for files. Bit Che allows you to instantly preview the torrent details by reading the torrent file directly. Easily view the page where the torrent was found or click to open the torrent in your favorite downloader. Bit Che also features built-in filtering to remove duplicate torrents found across the different sites that it searches.
Good thing about Bit Che is it doesn’t require Microsoft’s .NET Framework installed unlike Torrent Harvester. Bit Che currently supports searching for torrents on 18 public bittorrent tracker sites and 25 private bittorrent tracker sites that requires registration. You don’t have to worry about the private bittorrent tracker site that require registration because about 80% of them are open for free registration. Only popular private tracker site such as Demonoid and Oink would be hard to get in.

Actually there are a few more sites supported but it’s not included in Bit Che by default. They are adult bittorrent tracker websites such as FilePorn and empornium. To obtain the scripts, you need to sign up to Bit Che forum, and look for it there.
One thing I don’t really like about Bit Che is it has 2 versions. The free version that everyone can use and the Guevara edition. The Guevara edition supports tabbed searching, media type searching and morning coffee extension(auto search based on weekday). To obtain the Guevara edition, you can donate $5 to the author’s paypal or help Bit Che do some advertising on MySpace.
As for me, I’m already happy with the free Bit Che version because it can search the same amount of bittorrent tracker websites compared to Guevara edition.
Thanks to arachel for suggesting this tool on Raymond.CC Forum.
