There are some Internet Service Provider (ISP) that has time restrictions in downloading using BitTorrent. That means they stop throttling BitTorrent connections at specific hours of the day. Usually it’s from midnight (12AM) to early morning (7AM). Sometimes even starting at 2AM to 8AM. Imagine if you want to download something from torrent and you had to wake up at 2AM to start the download… If you’re a torrent freak that needs to download torrent everyday, it’s either you have to wake up at 2AM or stay up until 2AM everyday JUST to start the download process.
Luckily there are ways to automatically start and stop downloading torrent process so you can sleep early without having to wake up at early in the morning to do something that is so simple.
I will cover on how to schedule 3 most famous BitTorrent clients, uTorrent, Azureus and BitComet to start and stop downloading torrent.
Schedule Start and Stop Downloading on uTorrent
1. Go to Options -> Preferences (or press CTRL+P)
2. Go to Scheduler.
3. Check Enable Scheduler.
4. The first box starts at midnight (12AM). Each box represents 1 hour. You can move your mouse on top of the box to see what time it is. By default, everything is set at Full speed download. Clicking on the box twice will change the box to white color and it means to stop downloading. In the picture below, I’ve set it to start full download speed on Monday to Friday starting at 12AM to 8AM. I know, there’s a lot of clicking to be done but you only need to do it once.

Schedule Start and Stop Downloading on BitComet
1. Go to Options -> Preferences (or press CTRL+P)
2. Go to Scheduler.
3. Check Enable Scheduler.
4. Everything here is the same as in uTorrent.

Schedule Start and Stop Downloading on Azureus
This is slightly troublesome because the scheduler is not built-in into Azureus. It involves downloading the plugin and then configuring it.
1. Go to Plugins -> Installation Wizard…
2. Select By list from sourceforge.net and click Next
3. Look for Speed Scheduler, check it and click Next button.
4. Select Install the plugin(s) for you only and click Finish button. This is because some people installed the plugin for all users and the plugin doesn’t work.

5. Click the Install button when Azureus Plugin Installer appears. Once finished downloading, click Close.
6. Go to Plugins -> Speed Scheduler.
7. Check Enable SpeedScheduler.
8. Click New Schedule button on the right.
9. The New Speed Schedule settings are pretty self explanatory. Below is my configuration I’ve set to start full download speed on Monday to Friday starting at 12AM to 8AM. The rest of the time the transfers will stay paused.

Enjoy automated BitTorrent downloading without disturbing your sleep time!

BitTorrent is great, but the scheduler won’t wake the Mac up. I even tried running a Windows version in Parallels to see what would happen, but nothing will wake up the Mac until I move the mouse. I have set the system preference to allow network activity to wake it up, but as the scheduler is what starts the network activity, it still won’t wake up.
Any suggestions?
Dude, you’re a life saver!… Please never ever ever stop!
i have followed the instructions for utorrentz. i will start to use it from tonight. hoping it works properly!
can i have any suggestions regarding the usage from utorrentz users?
if the pc restart at in between the sheduled time, then also bittorrent automatically start?????????
pls give any suggesstion……..
should i keep the pc in SLEEP mode ,keep it ON or can shut it down for auto start of download.
That’s nice way of answering a q.
Thanks a lot…….
Yes…for me also…in bitcomet ….the scheduler is not working.Could u suggest me any idea?
i scheduled the torrent but it does not seems to be work
just to add a little more to the scheduling : when clicking on the time blocks (green blocks) just click the first block to the desired color and move the mouse pointer to the rest by just hovering over the other blocks ( no need to click the others), and you will find the others too change to that color without the pain of clicking each one individually.
so the trick is to change the 1st block to the desired colour by the required number of clicks and then just hover over all the blocks to be changed to that colour ( dont hover over blocks that you want not to change)
With bitcomet, how do I select a file to be governed by the scheduler? Oh, wait I fixed it!!! OK, here’s what you do
1. Get everything you want actively downloading
2. OPTIONS – untick Enable Scheduler (if ticked)
– hit APPLY
– tick Enable Scheduler
– hit APPLY
it stops downloading :)
Now, I don’t actually know if this works yet, and really, even if it works I probably won’t remember to come back and let you know about, it but it ‘feels’ right, you know?
Don’t smoke weed kids.
i scheduled my startimg time for downloads from 23:00pm till 06:00am but then it never started, can anyone please help me out thanks?
but i cant understand whether to keep the torrents in pause or stopped state??
Thank you, it halped a lot

thanks ray
Thankyou so much!! I’ve just changed my broadband plan and was wondering how I was gonna get around the “on-peak” and “off-peak” restrictions for my downloading. You Rock!! :-)
Hello all
it does not work for bitcomet. So frustrating when will they fix this
works good but you could also use wndows scheduled tasks
@annon
Some people have times called on and off peak.
I have 40 GB on peak 9am – 3am and 110GB off peak 3am – 9am.
Should I wake every morning to start downloads at 3am, then wake 6 hours later to stop them?
This plugin is great for that purpose.
I don\\\’t understand why people just don\\\’t turn on their downloads before they goto sleep regardless of the time. If its slow initially, who cares, you\\\’re in bed. It\\\’ll speed up by the time 2am rolls around.
thanks a lot…….how it actually works??..in this I’ve to keep my internet connection on….so is there any problem..?? mine is limited connection and if anything goes wrong then I’ve pay the bill in thousands….so pls help me out….
