A rootkit is a set of software tools intended to conceal running processes, files or system data from the operating system. Rootkits have their origin in relatively benign applications, but in recent years have been used increasingly by malware to help intruders maintain access to systems while avoiding detection. Rootkits exist for a variety of operating systems, such as Linux, Solaris and versions of Microsoft Windows. Rootkits often modify parts of the operating system or install themselves as drivers or kernel modules.
From what I know, virus destroys and create havoc on your system, trojans is to gain complete access to your system, spywares is to spy on your surfing habits and tricking you into buying softwares. As for rootkits, it’s also to gain complete access to your system except it is much tougher to detect than trojan. Your antivirus could not detect such programs because they use compression and encryption of its files. Luckily most script kiddies would just stick to trojans because it’s much easier to use and requires less knowledge compared to rootkits.
But my advice is never take anything for granted. Do scan your computers and servers for rootkits. You might never know that your servers has already been compromised by advance hackers which they use it to launch DDOS attacks.

Here’s a Rootkit remover I found which works is very easy to use. UnHackMe the rootkit killer is able to scan and remove Rootkits. UnHackMe can detect HackerDefender, Vanquish, AFX Rootkit, Hacktool.Rootkit, Backdoor.Isen.Rootkit, Backdoor.Rtkit, Trojan.Kalshi and more… With just a click of a button that says “Check Me Now!“, it only takes a second to scan and let you know if your system has been infected by rootkits. If infected, click on the STOP button for removal.

The downside of this tool is it is NOT free. You have to pay $19.95 USD to get a license. But crackers has done their job in cracking it. lord_Phoenix from REVENGE CREW has developed a keygenerator to generate a serial number to license UnHackMe. Looks like UnHackMe being Hacked! LOL! Do buy this software if you’re going to use it because the author has put in efforts to develop something that’s useful and easy to use. The reason crackers crack programs are to let the author of the software know about the weakness of their registration system.
LOL anyone who thinks cheatengine has a virus needs to visit the OMG virus thread in there forum which DarkByte the main programmer and site owner started
forum.cheatengine.org/viewtopic.php?t=24363
here is your link
I have been a member of there forum for a very long time and it is the best tool of its kind
I have found raymond.cc to be a great site WITHOUT BS VIRUSES
UnHackMe was installed on my computer (laptop) in 2007 and located the AFX rootkit which presumably it removed.
Unfortunately, after re-booting my computer, I discovered that the keyboard and touch pad no longer worked (and is still inoperable). Further, said software even took out my Safe Mode (until I restored it with a Vista Recovery CD disc)
I can assure that there’s no Trojan or whatsoever in CheatEngine and also the website. I’ve done extensive research on that.
Do you know that Antivirus gives false warning for precaution? I understand your concern but do know that I take all my visitors words very seriously. So I wouldn’t do anything to harm anyone.
I’ve scanned CheatEngine with 30 types of antivirus, antispywares and antihacker programs and none detected any virus or trojans.

There are loads more Rootkit Scanners at antirootkit.com/software/index.htm
Most are free and most are better than UnhackMe, try Rootkit Unhooker or GMER.
