Internet TV is really convenient because we can watch the TV episodes whenever we want without spending hours to download a few hundreds of megabytes first. We can simple access Veoh or Hulu, search for the TV episode that we would like to watch and just stream it on our web browser. Unfortunately Veoh and Hulu has stopped streaming videos to users outside of United States. My cousin reported to me about this when Veoh started to implemented the block and I was unable to search a way to bypass that restriction from any forum or website.

So I started testing and researching which led me discovering that Hotspot Shield, a free VPN service that makes my internet connections looked like I am located in United States is able to play videos in Veoh and Hulu. After a while, a lot of websites especially blogs started to post this tip and ended up Veoh blocking the HotspotShield IP address.
Today I am proud to be the first again in the world to share with you that I found a Hotspot Shield alternative called AlwaysVPN which allows you to watch videos in Veoh, Hulu, ABC, CWTV, Pandora even if you’re not in United States.
If you’re not in United States and try to watch videos from Veoh, Hulu, ABC, CWTV and listen to music from Pandora, you’d get the following error messages.
ABC.com Full Episode Player
Only viewers within the United States can watch these full-length episodes.Pandora
Dear Pandora Visitor,
We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.Veoh
Veoh is no longer available in COUNTRY.
If you are not in COUNTRY or you think you have received this message in error, please report the issue below.Hulu
We’re sorry, currently our video library can only be streamed within the United States. For more information on Hulu’s international availability, click here.
If you’re inside the United States and believe you’ve received this message in error, please click here.CWTV
Thank you for your interest in The CW. This service is currently available to viewers living in the United States.
AlwaysVPN is a free VPN (virtual private network) that runs on Windows XP, Vista, Max OS X and Linux. It creates an encrypted link between your computer and their servers and then forwards all of your internet traffic through this link.

For example this prevents local eavesdroppers from listening in on your web communication at a public WIFI hotspot. Furthermore unlike many other commercial VPN’s that may be blocked by firewalls our program can work on any Internet connection that allows you to browse web sites. AlwaysVPN is very similar to HotspotShield. Just install, connect and you will get a US IP address. There are 2 ways to connect to AlwaysVPN, TCP and UDP. UDP is faster because there is no form of flow control or error correction. As for TCP, it is slower than UDP but reliable because it offers error correction. Try both to see which would give you a better result in watching videos from Hulu and Veoh.
There are only 2 cons about using the free AlwaysVPN. The first one is not all service are supported because AlwaysVPN only allows web traffic on port 80, 443, 110, 143, 587 and 8080. The second is it shows advertising at the top of web pages that you view while you are using the AlwaysVPN network.

AlwaysVPN is still in very early beta and released yesterday but it works without problems on my side. Do try it and give feedback to AlwaysVPN if you found any problems so that they’ll improve it better.

A good year further, I can repost with some good news : >
I have it all working! I watch hulu.com for hours on end, listen to pandora and safely surf the web, totally private from local law agencies ànd FREE without any hassles : )
5 months ago, I re-tried hotspotshield again. I do not use Firefox anymore, just Chrome. I have had it working on Chrome 5.x and 6.x.
There are a few things you have to do… After installing hotspot shield (dm-239.exe – zumodrive.com/share/6RuDYjlhYj), you firstly want to edit your hosts file (Vista/7: start notepad.exe as administrator). You find your hosts-file in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc.
Add the following line to hosts:
127.0.0.1 box.anchorfree.net
This will block all advertisement systems Hotspot Shield uses.
BUT this will not get the pesky banner away! Sure, the advertisement banner is empty with a page-not-found, but it is still taking up space.
BUT I don’t know how, I am not bothered by it! First, I thought it was due to some new chrome features. This is not the case. When I installed it the other day for a friend, it gave me banners and newly opened pages immediately.
So I decided to add some of my installed BUT INACTIVE Chrome extensions to his Chrome installation. I did this with the new synchronization features of Chrome 6. One system restart ànd one of four disabled extensions seem to accomplish it. Install and test one-by-one to see which is effective (repost it maybe?). For I do not advise to keep these extensions activated – it might interfere with such movie-sites as movie2k.com…

I am SO SORRY that I cannot tell which one to use exactly – I missed it. So if you figure it out, OR can’t get it to work completely silently… Please repost! I’ll investigate further!
For now the only problem that remains is that once in a while you cannot connect to hulu.com because they detect you are behind a proxy.
The last two months I’m actually looking constantly (before that, I sometimes had to wait a few days, then I could watch a few days, etc.). On occasion I have to reconnect once or twice, but then it bypassed hulu’s filter. I do not know if this is because I persisted for so long with hotspotshield, that my real IP gets a shortcut to hulu? I don’t know. Test it yourself…
For I am LOVING it : >>>
Peace!!

Has this one been banned yet by hulu? I think ill stick with paying for vpn for the time being. I mean, 5$/month and you get a dynamic ip. I’m using hidemynet.
I can’t imagine alwaysvpn will last to long as a free service, everyone sharing ip and trying to access hulu, etc. it will be constantly banned.
Got a new program.
Early beta, still. Gives 9GB bandwith / month – user-account based as far as I can tell… (untested, but it would meen that dev.nullius@gmail counts as a new user account for devnullius@gmail…).
Currently, it has flash disabled – for privacy reasons. They are working this weekend on a possible fix. See ticket #120 on their site.
Unknown how long this fix will take, but they are aware this is a much requested “feature”…
Otherwise, it’s neuking briljant!
WHAT is it?
Based on Privoxy, it’s called: BitBlinder.
It’s primarily a private torrent downloader (private, in the way of: proxied). BUT it also includes a browsing-the-web feature with FULL proxy / protocol support (even upnp). It comes with a stand-alone (custom) version of Firefox. It has plug-ins support – so you can add what you truely think you need.
Bandwith is shared in p2p-style – hope it has enough features for Un. St. people to join the progam ; -)
Peace!
And till repost ; P
The solution of ultravpn is not free anymore. From their page:
>>5GB – USD 8.50
10GB – USD 15.00
20GB – USD 26.00
40GB – USD 33.00
80GB – USD 47.00
How do I use it?

Once you have an account you can purchase bandwidth and download our vpn client.<<
Ultrasurf didn’t work afterall for movie-sites. Pandora works great. But ALL your traffic (including torrents) will go through their proxy… It’s not a tool you keep running.
So still looking for movie-proxies… While my pandora relaxes me ; )

Raymond,
When trying to solve the 3GB limit with HotSpot, I tried to install OpenVPN (with the extra GUI which gives a long extra list of shorcuts in start menu).
Failing it to start, I came to your site and it seems that you \”just\” installed and got a US IP.
Is this the case? For I first had to copy the example config files to C:\\Program Files\\OpenVPN\\config and I had to run, from the start menu, \”Generate a static OpenVPN key\”, which creates two more config files.
But then I\’m stuck. And I don\’t get it – everybody else seems to install just fine. What am I missing?
I installed from: openvpn.se/ (GUI install). Both times the stable versions (after initially starting out with the latest builds – which gave me the same problems).
I also tried it with the GUI from sourceforge.net/projects/openvpn-admin/#item3rd-2 .
Error I keep getting is (when connecting with client.ovpn) the following:
Cannot load certificate file client.crt: error:02001002:system library:fopen:No such file or directory: error:20074002:BIO routines:FILE_CTRL:system lib: error:140AD002:SSL routines:SSL_CTX_use_certificate_file:system lib
(Googling it did not give me an adequate solution.)
I went on trying to configure it with another offerd wizzard: sourceforge.net/projects/openvpn-admin/ .
Great tool, IF you know what you are doing. And it seems that I don\’t :|
How do I get that crucial client.crt file?? Please help…
Thank you & Peace! : >

Its not free. Registered on to the website, but for downloading the software its asking to buy some bandwidth.
I think there goes the saying ..there is no free lunch in this world.
I have an account with smallvpn.com for $10 a month. It is a paid one but at least i am free from any ‘hidden’ agenda from these free-vpn provider.
So far so good. Solid uptime and i enjoy my hulu session ever since.
=)
Ha ha.. Hotspot is very slow and unstable.
Use USA VPN Service like VPN Privacy to access any USA based online content.
VPN will work without any additioanl software. Just create VPN connection in your OS, buy vpn account and enjoy full anonimity with USA based IP address.
just so ye kno hotspot sheild slows my connection from 8-10mb to 512kb
Installed it and still getting:

I’ve been using hotspotshield to watch hulu many times,
it’s always great to see another alternative.
P.S. you’re always one step further.
Thanks Raymond and OpenVPN devs, all works like a charm!
excellent work
Alternatively, you can use paid VPN services like relakks that will give you a US IP address … (of course that will cost money) … nice post Ray.. hope to see more VPN free services soon :)

Thanks, Raymond. I am living in US, to watch these video sites are not problem, but I am wondering how to watch BBC iplayer outside UK? Is anyone have idea?
Raymond,
You really rocks!!!
You made our life easier with a bunch of free stuff. A million thanks and kudos.
Two thumbs up for you!
Mike
Wow that was a fast reply. I am very grateful, thank you.
Fred, if you’re using a VPN that is secured with encrypted SSL link, your ISP won’t be able to decode the packets to know where you went and what you did on the Internet.
I read that IT IS possible to decrypt but it takes like 100 years or something on a super computer.
I am probably being really stupid here and definitely lazy not to research it myself but does this mean your ISP cannot see what you are doing. I ask this because it\’s a hot topic in the UK at the moment – the Home office wants ISP\’s to store all internet communications VOIP, e-mail even web surfing so they can access it at will with no need for authorisation. I have nothing to hide from them but with their track record I just don\’t trust them not to loose or leak the data to the world, his wife and the dog. I can see insurance, advertising companies and enviably criminals and lawyers rubbing their hands in glee at this potential windfall of data.
Can it be guarded against without going to extreme lengths? I mean this is the Home Office (incompetent and self admittedly \’not fit for purpose\’) not an Intelligence agency who probably do something similar already.
@crashtest
There will be these cases where we can know that the program is trusty one though the anitvirus and anti-spyware programs treat them malwares or threats,as spyware doctor blocks jellybean keyfinder as threat we know how much useful and safe it is .Thanks raymond
dude,,, thank you soo much,, i’m live in indonesia, and i cant enter veoh site,, and my university blocked soo many sites include youtube, now because your help, i can see and browse those site,,,

Hello raymond, call me stupid, but how do you actually use this thing? ive installed it, but i can’t connect to anything. apparently you need some config files. i.e files with an .ovpn files. but i have no idea where you would get these from.

No doubt that AlwaysVPN is new but I was able to install, use it to watch full episode videos from Veoh and even uninstalled it without any problems. Perhaps you wasn’t able to uninstall or roll-back because your antispyware and firewall somehow messed it up? It did create a new network adapter but did not modify anything on my currently installed network adapter.
Like I said, AlwaysVPN is very new, public release was only open yesterday, so there are surely lots of improvement to be made. That’s why this topic is about “Watching videos from Veoh and Hulu with AlwaysVPN” and not “logging in to your online banking/paypal with AlwaysVPN.
Thanks for your comment CrashTest, I hope the people from AlwaysVPN will see this and will look into the problems that you’re experiencing.
Hi Raymond,
How well did you check AlwaysVPN / OpenVPN before encouraging your readership to install it? Whilst the OpenVPN GUI has been around for a while, AlwaysVPN is a brand new product with no track record and little official support.
The installation process appears to delete / replace network components, and running it made my AntiSpyware and Firewall defences light up like a xmas tree.
Also, given that the AlwaysVPN install offers lots of additional components with no explanation of what they are or do, I suspect there is increased risk of changing or damaging things with no means of correction.
Why no means of correction? Because AlwaysVPN has no uninstall or ability roll-back. Sure the OpenVPN GUI can be uninstalled, but does that return the network stack back the way it was?
Also, AlwaysVPN / OpenVPN seems only to work with traditional network connections – ie: hard wire ADSL connections which use the Ethernet port. It does not seem to work with USB Modems – particularly those used to connect via a 3G mobile/cell network.
What are other people’s experience with this promising but essentially untried product?
Hey, thanks for this! It is great. Does anyone happen to know how I could watch programs from a New Zealand website from outside NZ? It states: This video is only available to New Zealand viewers only. The website is tvnzondemand.co.nz/ Any help would be great! Thanks, Matt
This app is ONE only work! I m from Russia and have no problem with Veoh, but registered with Pandora 2 years ago, try many different ways to listen , but always get error message. Today i can listen music again! This VPN also works with Betamax softphones, my IP begins with 85 & 91 blocked by Betamax for unknown reason, but today I be able to make call ! Thanks for sharing!
