Well I figured out a permanent solution for the 1.7.17.0
Download a program called “Unlocker”, install it and go to C:\>Windows\System32\ and first delete LegitCheckControl.dll and WgaTray.exe and then select with mouse the WgaLogon.dll file and right click and select Unlocker Option, it will open a middle window size with some option at the bottom right place, choose Unlock and then delete it.
After that, install the WGA_1.5.540.5_MkEx64 and after that paste the LegitCheckControl.dll-v1.5.723.1-Dic-2006, then restart your computer and maybe before it restart you will see a BSOD saying something of the Windows Genuine Logon, turn your computer holding the power button 6 seconds and it will shut down.
When you turn it on it will be like it was before the instalation of 1.7.17.0, go to Windows Update and tell to hide the “Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474) until there is a better solution.
Hope this help to everyone having this problem.

hi guys I installed Windows XP Professional on my newly built computer… then I stupidly tried to update it from Help and Support but it said my validation key is invalid…. So I downloaded this, and now It allows me to download the update for SP2 but when I install… about 5 minutes into the install I get an error saying that my product key may be invalid…. Anyway around this?

Re Previous post, it appears that the updates were applied after enabling automatic updates and clicking turn off computer. The update took place before the PC powered down.
After patch was able to download updates but they would not install.
Message said” Updates were unable to be successfully installed”
