The new Windows Live Essentials Wave 4 beta has been leaked and it can be found on torrents and file sharing sites. I really wonder how does this Windows Live Essentials Wave 4 got leaked out when it is supposed to be a private beta? Surely it must be a Microsoft employee that either accidentally or intentionally leak this out. A leak is not necessarily bad because the Windows Live development team will only receive more feedback on the new Wave 4 and they don’t need to answer for any problems that can cause on the user’s computer.

Basically Windows Live Essentials is like a whole suite that allows you to install a bunch of Windows Live applications such as Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Family Safety, Windows Live ID, Windows Live Movie Maker, Windows Live Photo Gallery, Windows Live Sync and Windows Live Writer. Out of curiosity I downloaded the Wave 4 and installed all of the Windows Live applications. The first thing I noticed is that all of the application now has ribbon. When I tried to sign in to Windows Live Messenger Build 15, I got the error “We can’t sign you in to Windows Live Messenger. You don’t have permission to log into this version of Windows Live Messenger. Error code: 810003cc“. Clicking on the Get more information links to me a Microsoft Federation Services employee sign in page.

We can't sign you in to Windows Live Messenger. You don't have permission to log into this version of Windows Live Messenger. Error code: 810003cc
I don’t know why all of the Windows Live Essentials Wave 4 Beta applications can be used except for Windows Live Messenger which is limited to only Microsoft employee…

There is a patch that replaces the original Windows Live Messenger 2009 build 15 with a patched version that allows you to sign in without getting the 810003cc error code. It only works for Build 15.2.2583.119 but when a new beta is leaked/released again, the patch cannot be used and will only revert the newer Windows Live Messenger to an older build.

To get around this restriction, I’ve created a patch that will auto search and replace the necessary offsets to allow sign in to Windows Live Messenger beta. Basically it is pretty much the same thing as the full patch but this tool allows you to do it your own and it also works with future Windows Live Messenger beta since it has offset scanning capabilities. The patch is created with dUP2 and some antivirus flags this tool as malicious. 14 out of 42 detects the patcher created by dUP2 as backdoor, cracker, hacktool and etc but both ThreatExpert online sandbox analysis shows that the patcher is clean and does not perform any malicious actions. Simply run and click the Patch button. It will auto locate where Windows Live Messenger 2010 is installed and creates a backup of the original messenger.

  • When I signed in for the first time, the WLM interface is really huge. Then after playing around with the menus, I found out this is the Social Mode and I can switch it back to the contacts mode which is like the current Messenger interface. Tab feature has also been implemented to the chat window so you won’t get multiple chat window flooding your taskbar.

It seems to also have some sort of Facebook integration at the bottom right Add > Facebook but the feature is incomplete. I am asked to sign in with Windows Live ID after adding Facebook and then it shows my Live account main page. Clicking the Skip button closes the window and that’s it.

      It’s politics.

Like when the government have an idea and want an

in-direct opinion from the electorate (public).

It gets leaked, hits the radio and TV, then the spin-

-doctors listen to media reports and tread carefully

on what to do next with their idea(s).

I feel these kind of leaks are deliberate.

      I agree with you Lee.

      I should start leaking X-Ray too :P

    • zero0

Come on ray.. leak the X-Ray too ;p

    • http://www.sinvise.net Sandeep

You should definitely start leaking X Ray :D all these companies especially MS leak most their stuff because it gives them more feedback to fix bugs and get things right.

One thing you should probably mention Raymond is Windows Live Wave 4 drops XP support like IE9.

    • Abdullah

gr8 work Rey .. keep it up

    • tux

Btw Live Family Safety can’t be used either. Patch for that?

    • tux

And neither can’t we use Live Sync.

    • Cyber MSX

setup.exe is not an valid Win32 acrchive.

I am experiencing the same error as zero0, I run under Win7 x64, I was using WLM 8.5, tried uninstalling it, zap messenger, and CCleaner to clean the left overs and still cannot install WLM 2010..

    • mohamed

      thank you raymond

    • rain_tly

the wlm beta cant update the persona message le???
      how??? any fix

    • Skawke

It doesn’t let you update your own status on MSN. Anything that has to do with communicating with the servers, it won’t let you do.

    • Gunny

Have you noticed any bugs with the beta version so far, if there are any big ones, please say, otherwise I’ll download it :P

    • 3333

trillian way better than WLM… This is what i think..
      What do other people thinks?

    • gt

hi raymond can you please test this on WLM 2010?

With the mouse cursor, go on and off the flash banner in the main window of WLM. If the banner “enlarges itself” wlm will start a new flash instance without closing the old one… so WLM 2010 memory usage will grow up without stopping.

I have windows 7 ultimate x64 with the latest version of flash

    • gt

edit my previous comment: it seems to depend on the banner…

    • gt

edit 2: switching from social to friend list modes will destroy all unused flash instances.

2 out of 3 bugs here in italy are bugged (nintendo wii and skoda yeti).

I hope you can confirm/deny this bug

    • brayden

You know what this reminds me of! The new Steam cilent beta. The toolbar with the “all favorites avaible etc.” is like the one on Steam

    • Gilles

it doesnt work on windows XP?

    • Skawke

Another word of warning – signing into the beta seems to alter your online Windows Live profile. If you decide to rollback to the RTM version of messenger, you’ll find that people cannot:
      -Nudge you
      -Send files

Basically it’ll seem like you’re using the most basic version of messenger, even though you’re not.

    • Hans

Skawke? Do you have that problem too?

    • gt

      @ Shawke

      same here, account corrupted

      @ anyone else

do not use this beta :)

    • d-nash

I have the same problem!!! Microsoft, please help!

    • Skawke

Yup, I suggest Raymond posting a warning on top of this.
      Read this thread here:
      http://windowslivehelp.com/thread.aspx?threadid=f6634364-9366-4975-bfd7-b4a7253afa86

      It’s a server sided problem.
