If you do not have a legitimate Windows XP and would like to install Windows Media Player 11, follow the steps below.
I’ve updated this post with 3 methods on installing Windows Media Player 11 final on a pirated Windows. Please try method 1 first, and if it doesn’t work, then try method 2 and so on.
Method 1:
1. Download and extract (unrar, unzip) wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe to a new folder
-Steps Removed or else I’m in trouble-
Method 2:
1. Download (Link removed or else I’m in trouble) Windows Media Player 11 CRACKED.
2. Unzip and install.
Method 3:
1. Download registry CRACK. (Links removed or else I’m in trouble)
2. Run wga.reg and click on YES when prompted.
3. Restart your computer.
4. Download Windows Media Player 11.
5. Run wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe and install as normal.
Leave your comments if you have difficulty in getting Windows Media Player 11 installed on your computer.

Hey guys!!! Here’s another way to install wmp11 on a cracked windows!!!
1. decompress wmp11 into a separate folder.
2. download removewga.exe from google.
3. start wmfdist11 from players folder (!!!do not restart)
4. start wmp11 (restart)
5. after restart if it asks for validation start removewga.exe file and restart pc.
That’s it!
I have it!!!

I did some research and found this interesting tut, i have to give the credit to: (Connor M).
I wanted to upgrade my Windows Media Player installation. The problem is, when I finally installed it, the Genuine Activator thing wouldn’t work. So I peeked into the Program Files/Windows Media Player folder, and saw a .DLL called LegitLibM.dll (clearly a Genuine Advantage DLL), so I deleted it, and then ran Windows Media Player again. This time, the whole thing worked, and when I clicked on “Validate” (I think that was what it said), it said that there was a problem with the Validation, and then because of that, I think it bypassed the whole thing! This is a very useful trick for people who have trouble with the stupid WGA.
And really workssssssssssssss.

ahmed. yes you will lose all of your music an you will not be able to get it back. the only way to keep your music is to delete the file c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll . that way the music won’t get caught in the ‘shell’ that gets destroyed when you install windows media player.

I am using Media Player 11 and I have found that the icons for mp3 and mpg will not change to the icon for media player. I have changed them to nero and that works ( the icon for nero comes up) but when I try to change it back to windows media player, although the file will open and play the mp3 or the video, the icon won’t change. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Alright, Zip the file then let them “unzip the file with password” then extract the files, then run the installation file. Then click Validate on the first step of the setup. Then select the hard disk where they want to install it to. Big deal. Takes 1 minute to install. Hey ray, I tried to install wmp 11 using the crack and when I tried to reboot, the computer detected it and therefore cannot load any windows files including startup as wga.reg stops the computer from checking the authentication of all windows files. Now it is a complete shutdown, not even system restore is helping. ANy remedies?

I had been trying to install xp xp2 onto my pirated xp pro for the past 5-6 months. Yesterday, while trying to install wmp 11, the validation problem stopped me. I came across your blog and the three methods suggested. Since, I had already downloaded wmp 11, I went for the third method (wga.reg). I installed the wga.reg crack.
But I could only suceed in overcoming the validation step in the installation of wmp 11 as I didn’t have xp sp2 on my system.
So I went again to try my luck at installing sp2(I had been trying this for months). An lo! I could install sp2! I shut down the pc and went to sleep dreaming of installing various software which needed sp2.(I forgot wmp 11). Today morning my dreams were shattered. XP loads till the welcome screen and then brings up an error message saying:
Hey Raymond.
Unfortunately this did not work for me because I can’t get SP2 installed, but, your wga.reg file has somehow stopped my computer from validating Windows upon startup. When restarting for the first time using Method 3, after the windows xp loading screen, it says welcome with a blue background as usual and then brings up an error message saying: “A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: 0×80004005″. Is there another way to fix this other than trying to delete the wga.reg file because I cannot start my computer. Thanks, Michael

Okay ive installed service pack 3 but it is still not working. Following what Raymondwrote im at the step where ive got to execute wmfdist11.exe it gives me the following message: Setup has detected that the version of the Service Pack installed on your system is lower than what is necessary to apply this hotfix.
At minimum, you must have Service Pack 2 installed.

hey raymond, when i rightclick on file wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe, i can’t find the word “extract to” and when i run it, my pc says that this file is not a valid win32 application. Could you tell me what the problem is? And how to solve it?

Easiest way that i found out just right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!(For the Windows copy version users)!!…Download the original version of Window Media Player 11 and go to controlpanel and just click the “remove” button and from there you will know what to do and voila,there you have it!=) I was searchin all over the net for a copy version of WMP and found the soulution on my own pc!:D

Method described on the post #109 really works, please give it a try, and dont forget to get offline before pressing the finish button, if anyone has trouble with it, i would be glad to help, it worked for me, tho the method with the .rga file didnt work(it asked me to validate anyways), so read it carefully and try it out please, it should work.

Yes ankush, the regular media files do change icon’s. You may change them by simply changing it’s properties when you right click it. But, sometimes files have a preset preference in which you’ll have to fiddle with yourself in order to change the icon if possible to what you want.

U dont double click that file, you right click it, go to WinZip and open in another folder. That exe is a zipped executable file. Meaning u can either double click it or unzip it :)

Before clicking finish to be redirected to the valiation page, go offline. Than in the windows media player folder and delete the file legitlib.dll. Than click next at your windows mediaplayer setup and it wil say fail to validate, but it continious and you can use windows media player 11. Thanks to you all dudes

As I stated above … my system is ‘legal’ but neither MS WMP 10 of 11 will recognise my CD-RW device as a burner.
I’ve installed “Media Center 11″ as an alternative to MS WMP; and having done so I have a very good alternative to MS WMP. What’s more it did reconise my CD-RW device – FIRST TIME – and it burns a mean CD – so I’ve solved that part of my problem.
Now, all I need now is to completely remove MS WMP 10 and 11 … sick grin !!
So, as a first step, I took the advice given in post # 094 above and ran
Start / Run / “C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallwmp11$\spuninst\spuninst.exe”
Thankfully – and thanks a lot – that code ran OK and I was told that Windows Media Player 10 had been re-installed.
I took the opportunity also to uninstall everything I could find in Add/Remove Programs that looked as if it belonged to WMP 11 …
With one exception !!!
When I tried to uninstall an item called “Windows Media Player Hotfix (referencing Q828026) I was presented wuth such an horrifying list of possible side effects and problems with software I have installed – that I chickened out !
Having now Googled “Q828026″ I don’t think it’s a serious problem – but I’m still leaving it alone !!!
So … now … I have a copy of MS WMP10 that runs as a player (and still will not recognise my CD-RW device … and I really want to get rid of it.
My system has remained stable throughout all this – thank heavens – but the wretched WMP 10 program will not present itself (for removal) in Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs (nor can it be seen with CCleaner ……. So I’m apparently stuck with it !!
To add to the problems I have … I’ve also found some evidence of Windows MP 6.4 still lurking in my machine.
Can anyone help me to get rid of what remains of MS WMP in my system please ?

I looked for what must have been ages, trying different cracks. However today it suddenly dawned on me what to do!!!I simply downloaded wmp11 from microsoft and then extracted it usung a program called WinRaR i then downloaded the patched .dll file from the internet. I renamed the original file and then renamed the patched file to the same name as the original. Then i ran setup_wmp and to my astonishment i had fianlly passed windows genuine advantage validation!!!!!!!seriously try this it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did not have to install ‘through the backdoor’ as my system is ‘legal’ … whatever that means !! … it’s simply that I have this problem with neither WMP10 nor WMP11 recognizing that my CD-RW device is useable as a ‘burner’ !!!
Yesterday, I discovered another way to manage my CD burning – I have downloaded, tested and decided to use a very nice looking product called ‘Media Center 11′ instead of WMP11 (or WMP10) – and it does all and much more than WMP does (and has no problem recognizing my
CD-RW burner).
Now, all I need to do is to remove all vestiges of both WMP10 and 11 from my system.
If I follow your recommendation to remove WMP11, would you expect that I will then be able to remove WMP10 as well ?
How to uninstall WMP 11
If like me you couldn’t uninstall windows media player 11 after using the validation backdoor and then realised 10 was better but can’t uninstall it, follow the following.
goto start menu, run,
type the following
“C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallwmp11$\spuninst\spuninst.exe”
This will uninstall wmp11 and after a reboot, it should be as if wmp10 had just been installed from scratch.

I have a completely legal and up to date Windows XP Home SP2 system with both WMP10 and WMP11 installed. I#ve tried rolling back and re-installing WMP11. They will play CDs though.
Neither version of WMP will correctly ‘see’ my CD-RW drive whilst everything else I try to use does. Thus I can burn CDs OK.
How can I completely remove all traces of the two WMP installations, please ??

I was sold a Win XP code that wasnt genuine. Not that I care much if it is or not. The other night my GF decided it would be a smart idea to update my media player. So got that validation problem.
I tried all the methods. What worked for me was…
Extract into the windows media player folder. overwrote everything. Installed.
deleted Legitlib.dll.
Started W11 then set it up.
It asked to validate again.
Before clicking finish to be redirected to the “hey you have counterfeited software” page I unplugged internet.
Checked the windows media player folder and noticed legitlib.dll redownloaded into the folder.
Deleted it again.
Clicked Finish, which resulted in nothing (since cable was unplugged)
Went to my music folder selected a song to play which resulted in a revalidation message, Clicked finish anyways and the song played.
If you want to trick big ole Microshaft Media Player, make sure you delete any legitlib.dll files while unplugged from internet.(after setup of course) Then run the program while disconnected. Presto.

I made it work without following any of this and by common sense.
Look, the registry files are a bad idea, I looked at it and it changed your product key and everything, and some had commented windows may not restart afterwards.
What should one do? well, first of all, just download the newest windows media player from wnidows update (if you dont how to do that, try searching legitcheckcontrol.dll) after downloading and installing wmp11 it still wants to check windows first time it is run. First look into the wmp directory and find legitlibm.dll and rename it. Then search internet for a legitlibm.dll crack and put it there instead.
Now run the wmp again. it will still check, but this time you can go on validating, the cracked dll will let you through.

Do you have Service Pack 2 installed? To Install SP2 on your pirate XP you mast validate the XP key, so if you have SP2 installed, then it’s allready validated, and the methods for installing MP11 should work. Also I think that MP11 won’t work without SP2.
Yea I as well tried the first method, which didn’t work, so I tried uninstalling 11 (“rolling” back to wmp 10), it says it finished rolling back but I’m still stuck with an uncracked version of wmp 11…….. any help would be grealy appreciated

Just got an iRiver today and WMP11 should recognize it. Tried install drivers manually through Windows, and I only get the message that the INF is invalid.
Is that because Windows is cracked?
Or is it because Windows Media Player 11 is cracked?

I am having problem with your procedure!! I installed IE7 perfectly.. I installed window defender Perfectly. But i am unable to install win medi.. 11 because the first method didnt suceeded properly as the first step went fine “wmfdist11..” restarted and then tried with wmp11 at the middle i got error stating this setup cannot continue (i dont know exactly) and all the intall rollback to win series 9 that to with error.
Now i try the 3rd method with reg there after merging with the system and restarting i am asked for validating and then get message of counterfit…. So what to do now.
Also after this i again need to update the legitcheckdll because the Microsoft website start showing the same message to me of invalid licence key.

when you boot up, hit F8 untill the boot menu appears. choose safe mode with command prompt. login as administrator. run c:/winnt/system32/restore/rstrui.exe. this is system restore, choose a point before you installed the crack and run it. when you restart you should be good to go.

I found a different way to fix it by using system restore. thanks for the help even though i didn’t need it.
Now I solved problem you have to repair your operating system.
Insert your original Windows XP CD. Restart your computer, and, when prompted, press any key to boot off the CD. Proceed like you’re going to install windows again. Don’t worry, you’re not going to lose anything. After the license agreement, you’ll get a screen that lists the partitions on your hard drive. There should be only one. If there’s more than one, choose the one that you know has windows on it PRESS ‘R’ TO REPAIR. Follow the rest of the directions.

And in the future never ever install any cracks in your computer, if you are not excatly 100 % sure what you are doing. Especially do not touch your Windows registry if you are average user. That’s what I learned this time…

if u got problems with a non-genuine windows, try to install the reg file and NOT restarting ure comp worked for me no the other way around tho.

hey junno its quite simple,
just right click on the wmp 11 exe file,then it would give you an option to “extract to “.you gotta extract it to the new folder you created and after that all these files would be in your new folder to install.then follow the above instructions. goodluck

hey guys, it work 100% for me. maybe you should disconnect your line 1st before you install media player.
I downloaded the wga.zip file, and followed your instructions. Unfortunately, after I try and install WMP11, it still tells me I have an illegal copy of windows. Any idea on what went wrong?
Guys, I’ve just tried downloading wga.zip and the registry file is working fine.
Anyway, I will try uploading to a few more mirrors for you to try download.

Ive searched found this xp cd keychanger it comes with instructions just follow them and then try and install windows media player 11 and everything should work out fine .

Maybe GigaSize has problems with .reg file.
I’ve zipped the registry file. It’s now wga.zip
After extract you should get wga.reg

Sorry i mean an already activated cd key and change it to yours thats all i can help you with your problem Bryan
You should change your cd key to a legit cd key and then that media player 11 will just notice you are already activated and it will just let you pass.

Bryan, You don’t need to place the wga.reg file at any location.
just download the wga.reg from step 1 and double click the file. Select YES when prompted.
