2 days ago, there is Windows Vista retail download links posted on some forums. That seems pretty normal as there are people kept on uploading whenever Rapidshare removes them. The special thing about this Windows Vista leak is that it is DIRECTLY from Microsoft! It is original and untouched. It’s the 32bit-Vista version (Ultimate/Business/Home depending on what serial number you use, of course). Full-Version (not an upgrade).

There are 3 parts to download.
1. boot.wim
2. install.wim
3. X13-49120.exe


If you look at the filenames of the 3 files, it doesn’t tells you that it’s Windows Vista. My first question is, how did it got leaked out and know that it’s Windows Vista? The total file size for this 3 files is 2.52GB.

The domain that hosting the 3 files is msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net. I did a whois and this domain belong to a company called Digital River. Digital River is a leading provider of global e-commerce solutions for software and consumer technology. One example is that Norton store is powered by Digital River. After you’ve purchased any software from Norton and you chose to download the product after paying, Digital River will give you a link to download the FULL version.

Another question in my mind is, why is Windows Vista being hosted on Digital River? We all know Windows Vista don’t ship the product digitally. It comes in original DVD.

I am shocked and can’t explain. Downloading Windows Vista from the direct leaked link will be a lot faster and easier compared to files on RapidShare. But remember, if these files are hosted on a site chosen by Microsoft as “Content Delivery Network” for its products, it is possible that it logs every IP address that’s been downloading from them. I believe when Digital River notices a high traffic on those 3 files, it will be removed.

Edit: OK, I was wrong. You CAN buy Windows Vista online and download it after paying. That answered all my questions above on why is it being hosted on Digital River, and how does people know that those 3 files are Windows Vista.

      I tested it. it works! I used internet download manager (IDM) here is what you do

      Put the exe and the 2 wim files together in the same folder. Then click on the exe. It will copy the wims to the correct folder. An installer will come up. Close it. The exe created a folder called vista. All the files (and the wims) are in there.

      Follow these instruction to make an ISO
      Copy the 3 files from Microsoft to c:\
      Run X13-49120.exe and it will create a folder called Vista
      Extract CDimage from my rar file to the C:\ drive
      Type this at c:\ prompt
      Code:
      cdimage -m -u2 -bC:\Vista\boot\etfsboot.com C:\Vista\ C:\Vistax86.iso
      (obviously you can change the paths if you have the files somewhere else)
      Burn the resulting image (recommend you use Nero and for Gods sake Verify the DVD after you burn it or you could be half way through the install and it might not be able to read a file. In fact burn two DVDs just in case)
      Reboot and boot from DVD. I recommend that you unplug any Ethernet cables and if asked do not allow to Activate automatically.
      DO NOT ENTER ANY PRODUCT KEY
      Once installed follow the instructions in the Paradox folder of my rar file. It works a treat.
      NOTE: Microsft know about this type of crack and have a hotfix to stop it. It’s KB931573. So don’t turn on automatic updates yet. Do a manual update, view the list of updates and right click on KG 931573 and select hide.
      Congrats you’re done.

      Thank you Warez-BB! I had same problem as bpx–your instructions worked! Had to find cdimage utility but, again, I now have a bootable disk. Looked like full version–install said ‘upgrade disabled.’ Make sense?

      When i click on cdimage.exe it just quickly opens then closes. I’m supposed to type the code at the c:\ prompt, can’t really do this if it just exits right away. I tried downloading CDimage from another site but the same thing happens. I need help…

      I’m still downloading this but when the install.wim doesn’t want to continue I’ve only downloaded 7 mb from that huge 2301mb. is it becuase of the excessive downloads on the server or is it just my internet connection or is it something else because I’m waiting to try out vista.

      I found links on GOOGLE and just downloaded. Right now installing on my laptop that is working fine.

      I used Nero for Making ISO file it was quiet easy. Thanks again. You just let me avoid a Purchase of an upgrade version of Vista Ultimate because here in my Country it costs 450€ imagine it’s just for an upgrade!
